No news from me. My calls have not been returned.

pwd72s 11-11-2007 10:39 AM

Damn...is there anybody down there willing to play detective? Find out the hospital, etc?

artplumber 11-11-2007 11:14 AM

Prob St Joes I'd guess....

pwd72s 11-11-2007 11:28 AM

So, would they let you know if Kevin is a patient? Give updates?

legion 11-11-2007 12:05 PM

If one of the doctors on the board could make a call, they would probably get much further than us average citizens. HIPA is such a PITA.

RickM 11-11-2007 05:45 PM

Hope all is well with Kevin. This is some nasty stuff to fight off.

DARISC 11-11-2007 06:03 PM

60 Minutes on now - segment on MRSA.

Joeaksa 11-12-2007 12:00 AM

Any update? Monday over here and hope we can get a progress report.

Dammit Kevin, put some rubbing compound on it and it will buff out! :)

pwd72s 11-12-2007 10:42 AM

bump...hoping for news

deanp 11-12-2007 11:19 AM

Kevin - best of luck beating the infection. Sounds like you may have caught it early enough.

The segment on 60 Minutes last night was pretty scary. There is one antibiotic, vancomycin, that is 'the antibiotic of last resort' that seems to work. They explained that the normal pennicillin (sp) family of antibiotics is useless against this latest strain of staph. They showed a petri dish with the bactieria with circles of antibiotics, the only one that had a clear zone around it was the vancomycin. They indicated if caught early enough a topical ointment seemed to be successful, once it goes internal it was a tough bugger to beat.

rammstein 11-12-2007 11:22 AM

Its worrisome that we haven't heard anything at this point- is anyone local?

KevinP73 11-12-2007 12:16 PM

Thanks for your concerns and well wishes. I got released from the hospital Saturday and am laying low at home. This MRSA is nothing to take lightly. Although I was never really in fear of dying this IS some serious stuff to deal with. I've been told to lay low for another week and will probably only work partiall days for a while. No insurance and three weeks of Dr. bills and three days in the hospital are going to take it's toll on the checkbook soon also.
Thanks Again for all your concerns. It's comforting to know who ones friends are.

motion 11-12-2007 01:24 PM

Kevin, you had us worried. Stay strong and tough. Keep us updated.

450knotOffice 11-12-2007 01:29 PM

While my wife (a neo-natal intensive care nurse) and I were taking a walk last week I mentioned to her what you had been diagnosed with and she gasped. She knows quite a bit about the dangers of that strain so we talked about it for a while.

I'm glad you seem to be over the hump on this. Get well soon, Kevin.

+1:(

gassy 11-12-2007 02:21 PM

Good to hear that you're home. Hang in there man

slodave 11-12-2007 03:10 PM

Hey Kevin,

I'll be around the corner from your house later this week. Any chance I could stop by for a few (minutes, not beer ;)).

Dave

Scott at Pelican Parts 11-12-2007 03:45 PM

Great to hear you are home from the hospital. Take it easy, my friend.

edgemar 11-12-2007 04:09 PM

Glad you're feeling better!

livi 11-12-2007 04:48 PM

Kevin,

Sorry to hear about your condition. Glad you are feeling better. Do I understand correctly that you apparently contracted the MRSA outside any health care environment ? Here those little buggers are primarily something you would find in hospitals.

Tobra 11-12-2007 04:55 PM

Markus, as I said in the ohter thread, the most recent statistics for the Sacramento area indicate Community Acquired MRSA is more common than Hospital Acquired by a significant margin.

Kevin, glad you are okay, hit them all up for a break on the bills, medically indigent, poor grease monkey. You should be able to get them to cut you some slack, especially if you do some kind of payment agreement with them.

Lot of dudes with disposable cash here, what about a fund raiser for young Kevin?

pwd72s 11-12-2007 05:01 PM

Oh man...this is great news. Kevin, don't scare me like this...I want to see that turbo emblem I sent you on a car! :D

pwd72s 11-12-2007 05:07 PM

Milt? Email me...guys? Let's start a fund to help Kevin with the bills...the poor guy has no insurance, as many of us who are/were self employed operate or operated...those who have employer paid health insurance have no clue how expensive it is for the self employed. Too often the choice is between paying rent and buying health insurance. Rent wins...otherwise, you're out of biz.

I nominate Milt as the fund collector. I hope he accepts.

Brillo 11-12-2007 05:08 PM

Glad you are alright Kevin! Take care of yourself.

You still have to ride in the Caddy SmileWavy

livi 11-12-2007 05:10 PM

Just read that thread again. Thanks Tobra.

It is a jungle out there it seems. We have grown so accustomed to good protections against microorganisms during the last fifty years, I am fairly certain we will have a rude awakening sometimes soon. New strains of Influenza for instance. The bug world will strike back. Sooner or later.

speeder 11-12-2007 06:28 PM

Big relief. I've been checking the board on a regular basis for this thread alone. Get well soon, Kevin!

BlueSkyJaunte 11-12-2007 06:45 PM

Just saw this and I'm glad you're doing better Kevin.

Whether Paul or Milt puts something together, one of you guys let me know what I can do to help.

Z-man 11-12-2007 07:57 PM

Kevin -- get better soon. The bills can wait. Don't risk the chance of this bug not going away by getting run down...

You are in my prayers.
-Z-man.

fingpilot 11-12-2007 11:13 PM

Kev! Also have been checking just to get an update. Am up north, but will be back in town late week. Anything needs doing?

Joeaksa 11-13-2007 01:39 AM

Glad things are looking better. Let us know how we can help...

nut11 11-13-2007 01:15 PM

I really appreciate you guys thinking of me but truth be told there really is no need for your generosity. There are other people and other causes that need help far more than I .
It's knowing who my friends are that matters most to me.
And I Thank you all.SmileWavy

Noah930 11-13-2007 02:19 PM

Heh heh. Don't be so quick to pass on the collection idea until you see the bills. ;)

+1, or put it toward chips 'n' dip!

Get well soon Kevin, what a relief ;)

RickM 11-13-2007 05:50 PM

Glad to hear you're OK...I was definitely worried. I also know what it's like to have medical bills with no insurance...a real drain on resources.

FWIW, I just saw on Fox news that 90,000 people contract MSRA in the US and 18,000 succumb to it's effects. A higher mortality rate than AIDs.

speeder 11-13-2007 06:43 PM

My next-door neighbor brought his 911 out to Kev for some body work after a talk yesterday, (he already knew about A.I.R. from this board), and my 996 will probably end up there soon for some paint work. We just need to keep scratching-up our cars and getting them fixed there and he will be OK. ;)

Take it easy, Kevin, let the healing process work. There is plenty of time to work ourselves to death. :)

futuresoptions 11-13-2007 07:20 PM

Hope your feeling better Kevin......

KFC911 11-14-2007 02:22 AM

Great news! I was at a show Sun. night (Ratdog w/ Steve Kimock...catch 'em if you can :)!) and was walking down a stairwell (occasionally touching the handrail), when my g/f admonished me to stop, and mentioned MSRA. She's a nurse, and knew nothing about this thread...that's some scary stuff no doubt! Take care Kevin, and although I'm not going to mess my car up just for you, I too would be willing to help if it gets to that point.
