Barn find.... (really)
I have rented this garage for 3 years. I knew this thing was way up in front below a shelf where the landlord still has a few things. So, today I got to it and uncovered it. It has (had) 2.4 miles on it, now it has 2.8. Took me all afternoon to get the tank and carb cleaned up and running. (Yes, I did all the things I learned on the forums including some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinder.)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1194392997.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1194393045.jpg I don't know if that will show up. Anyway, it was sold at Sears in 1978 and was made in Austria by Kromag. A Google says Kromag was sold at JC Penny. But, the data tag on the frame says sold at "most" Sears. I'm pretty sure who owned it and left it there. He has since died and my landlord is his stepson. The stepson didn't even know it was in there! I mentioned it once a few months ago. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it, if anything. It looks brand new. Thought you might like a good story. :) |
Cool find!
Just remember riding a moped is like boning a fat chick. It's a lot of fun until your friends find out, then they'll laugh at you. |
Hey, man, you can laugh all you want. It goes all of 25 MPH. Of course the first thing I did was nail it, just like my first day with the Carrera. ;)
|
that's just cool. Nice find.

I'll have to cruise the beach if I can find the one that isn't gay around here. (No offense to gays, I just don't need to be riding this along 4th Street, if you know what I mean. :D ) |
had one like this when I was 9 back in the 60's. found out after siphoning gas from my father's aviation fuel, I could do 10 mph faster. used the same bike years later to jump start my brother's education of mechanical devices by designating him my official spark checker as soon as he could walk. fun times!

You'll be the envy of all your friends when gas hits $4/gal.
|
check them tires for cracks, they may need some glycerol!
2.4 miles, amazing. |
Cool, nice gauge.
Cool find, like a time capsule. Now you need some tassels and a banana seat. :D |
Whatever, man. That thing is COOL AS HELL. Congrats! You might need to put the mirror on the left side, though. I'm not sure about that.

I love mopeds (and also full figered gals as well!). Great find! Collectors item witrh thos low miles. I smell an e-bay sale coming...
|
Nice find Milt!
Is the Landlord letting you keep this?? I would hang on to it... This thing is going to be worth some bucks when gas hits $5 a gallon next summer!! You'll be the envy of ALL in Long Beach... Gay or straight!:D |
In all seriousness that is completely awesome. A relic!

Awsome. I had a few mopeds in the 80s, put a big bore kit a one an had the thing up to 35 on flat ground. Have fun with it.
|
The only way to ride a moped is wearing a cape.
|
Milt, that is really neat. I like mopeds too, and 2.4 miles is amazing. Almost certainly should replace the tires and tubes, though. Great find.
|
After reading the thread title, I thought maybe you had found a barn........
Neat little machine! Cheers |
Yep, pretty cool find indeed, Milt. :)
|
That's pretty cool. I had a Puch just before I got my licence. I treated the trottle like an on off switch.
Now this little one looks cooler but all I can think is... custom paint. |
I'm thinking cafe' racer... clip ons, rear sets, old half helmet and goggles, "Ace Cafe" patch on your sleeve...

Milt,
Cool find. I'm a 39 YO Infantryman and I ride a moped to work almost every day. 80mpg and NOBODY has laughed at me yet....at least to my face. Ride the S**t out of it. |
Any find that has an engine attached is cool. Must've been a Puch competitor.
