Any Roy Buchanan fans here?
I've only recently discovered Roy Buchanan with a little help from my friends. Thank God for youtube and internet forums.
I knew the tragic story of his end from reading his name in the guitar rags for years, but Id never actually heard him play or seen recordings of his performances until a few months ago. I knew about the connection to The Band, Robbie Robertson, and Danny Gatton, but I'd never sought any of his music out before. I knew he was a monster tele player, but Id never actually heard him play. After listening to a couple of his live albums almost exclusively for the last two days, 'Wow' is all I can say. Granted that Albert Collins was a master of the Telecaster, and Danny Gatton was an alien, but Roy Buchanan was a complete madman of a Tele player. This guy had it all. Anybody else a fan? Anybody from the NoVA or DC area ever see him play live in the clubs? Rick Lee? Anyone? |

Yeah, I'm a huge fan. My Holy Trinity is probably Jimi, Jimmy, and Roy - desert island material for sure. I listen to "Second Album" almost everyday.
Here's a good one - those trebley screams just rattle your fillings.

I like Albert Collins. I like Roy and Danny.
But my favorite Tele player of all? Jimmy Page. ![]() Just don't say that on the LPF, eh?

Roy Buchanon was good. Word was that the Stones asked him to join the band in 71' but he turned it down so they got Mick Taylor instead, or was it Ron Wood...anyway...
Another Guitarst, perhaps the Greatest Guitarist of all Time in any genre who WAS murdered, still unsolved...was Lenny Breau. I dont mean to steal this thread away from Roy Buchanon.... but both guitarists lives were ended far before they should have been, and neither was a financial success equal to their musical ability. |

I used to listen to Roy Buchanan back in the early 70's, but I haven't thought about, or listened to his stuff for years. Thanks for reminding me of him ... I'll have to pick up some CDs.
