Shop at Sears!!

I got this email today and thought it was really cool what Sears does for their people!!. No I dont work for Sears.

************************************************** *************

THIS IS AWESOME!

Subject: Sears and the Military

Subject: Sears - Christmas shopping has already started

I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

Old news, but still cool. I like Sears tools for the lifetime warranty.

Superman 11-26-2007 10:39 AM

Sears rocks. I wonder if Wal-Mart has the same policy.

I'm not shopping at Sears again until they replace or fix the $200 floor jack that broke after 18 months of use.

Porsche-O-Phile 11-26-2007 10:41 AM

That is awesome. Maybe I'll rethink where I'm going to get that air compressor I'm in the market for. I had ruled out Sears, but I may need to rethink that.

Hawktel 11-26-2007 10:59 AM

I buy my tools there.

Dude,

Consider yourself lucky. Why? Because you got screwed just once; I got screwed 3 times. Oh, and the jacks lasted 4 months for me.

I still buy stufff from them.

P.S.,

Sears is owned by K-Mart, correct?

legion 11-26-2007 06:51 PM

I'll buy their unlimited-lifetime warranty hand tools. I won't buy anything else that doesn't have an unlimited warranty.

I thought Sears bought K-Mart.

No.

K-Mart tanked, I ignored the stocks as I personally saw way too many store closures. Sears started to perform bad; long and behold, K-Mart bought them.

Don't we all wished we bought K-mart stocks back then.

BTW, I received one of them investing flyers: It said something about "Had you invested $8,000.00 20 years ago into Home Depot, you would be $15,000,000.00 richer today!" or something like that.

Sapporo Guy 11-26-2007 07:40 PM

stocks would have been:
yahoo
apple
M&

lolo, hind sight is superb isn't it!

sammyg2 11-27-2007 07:27 AM

I stopped shopping at sears long ago.
Over-priced junk, poor customer service, predatory credit card practices, etc.

I don't care if the CEO volunteers to go fight the war, I'm not spending any money in one of those stores.

Palum6o 11-27-2007 07:49 AM

I like their Kenmore appliances, they are priced right and they work well. I have their front load washer/dryer, microwave, toaster oven, and full size oven and all work great. When we were younger, my brother and I would go to flea markets and look for old craftman tools that were really beat up - we'd simply take them into Sears for replacements. Its sad to see that some of the items they sell are junky. The latest example is a simple LED flashlight I bought from Sears $12, and didn't work. Returned it, went to Home Depot and got a similar Husky LED flashlight for $5 and is better quality.

I shop at Sears for tools, sometimes appliances. Think they are a decent store, like the convenience of many categories under one roof, salesfolks are nice if not always knowledgeable.

Sears bought K-Mart after K-Mart went through bankruptcy.

No, K-mart bought Sears when K-Mart emerged from bankruptcy.

And K-Mart is where you can score sweet deals on appliances, which are all kenmore/Maytag, etc. but most people still go to Sears to buy those, even though K-Mart carries the same pieces, warranty, etc.

MRM 11-27-2007 10:13 AM

I hate it when people don't pay attention.

K-Mart bought Sears when it emerged from bankruptcy and merged the two companies.

tcar 11-27-2007 01:24 PM

Here, one of the K-marts has been converted to Sears Home.

The whole ground floor of the Sears near my office is now Land's End store -

think Sears bought them before K-mart bought Sears...

daepp 11-27-2007 01:33 PM

Great policy of Sears towards our military. It will certainly encourage me to shop there. I here they ahve a new floor jack with an integral jack stand - might be worth looking in to.
