Overfilled Oil Change
After a comedy of errors, I finally got my oil changed in my Ford Focus. When i checked hte level I am overfilled by a bit per my dipstick. Do I need to drain the excess oil or is a bit high ok (i.e. no lasting damage)?
FWIW, things I learned: 1-Do not fail to replace the cap on the new oil bottle when you open it to lubricate the o-ring 2-Do not fail to replace the oil filler cap on the engine. |
If it's just slightly over and you drive in town, low revs, don't worry about it.
Steady high rpms for a while on highway, I'd let some out. |
Harry? Does this mean that when you're driving your P-car you are out of Focus? Sorry...couldn't resist...

Tip for lubing an oil filter gasket...buy an old fashioned plunger type oil can...much easier than trying to pour from the bottle. The one I bought from NAPA decades ago still works well...I keep it in it's mounting bracket on my garage shelving.
