Summerboard + iphone
Ive been wanting to get my custom wallpaper set as my desktop. Apparently with the iphone this requires a third party software called Summerboard. Now Ive watched this video 5 times and still don't quite get all this. At least not enough to feel confident to attempt it. The kid thats doing the video sounds like hes 14! Im amazed how damn smart some of these kids are now days. Has anyone tried to installed this application thats not a certified geek? To me it looks well beyond the average iphone user's ability.

The basic process is to "jailbreak" your iPhone so that it can accept third party apps, then to install "installer.app" - Installer.app allows one to install many different apps, wallpapers, icons and such.
I haven't jailbroken my phone since the 1.1.1 days, but if you Google "installer.app" you will be able to find the solution. If you are 1.1.3 now, I think you have to back-date your phone to earlier firmware and the process is a bit involved. Also search tuaw.com - there are some iPhone app developers who blog there. Here's a link to a link for the jailbreak for firmware 1.1.3 if you are using a Mac - proceed at your own risk:

works the same with the iPod Touch, I have changed mine a few times and at the moment I am just running the new 1.1.3 software with added new apps released by apple.
I am waiting to see the SDK stuff when it's released. |
