Frustrated With Verizon EVDO

I've been having real problems with Verizon EVDO in the past couple months. With 3-4 bars, download speeds are very slow (typically <100kbps) with extremely long delays before pages start loading (30 sec to 1 min). Very occasional bursts to 500+kbps, but like every 5 minutes I get one burst. Basically makes it unusable for me.

This is at conferences in NYC and SF, using Sierra AC595, EVDO-A. I have tweaked the card to lock to EVDO-A, no help. Calling VZ tech support was useless.

I don't know if VZ's EVDO service is overloaded or what?

Talked to my IT folks who said VZ EVDO has been slow and strongly recommended that I switch to ATT's wireless broadband data service.

Interested in any input from wireless data users here. VZ users, or ATT users. The third choice for wireless data is Sprint - any thoughts?

In general, I'm getting disenchanted with VZ. Already planning to switch to ATT for family Blackberries.

Do you have both USB wires plugged in at the same time?

I was right where you were until a couple of days ago.
I would also have to restart my computer every 8-12 hours to get it to re-engage.

Now, with both wires connected the signal strength id near double and I spike 1,444mps and work at 600-800.

Hope that helps.

This is after nothing but 'dial-up' since the start of time.

This last month is like having a whole new internet.

No, this is using the EVDO card in my laptop.

BTW, I read that VZ EVDO has, or had, a 5GB/month limit. Downloading more than that puts you at risk of cancellation. Don't know if or how much they actually enforce this.

Now I am in the airport (SFO) and VZ EVDO works perfectly fine.

What I think is happening, is the conferences I go to are in an area where there are a lot of EVDO users - including many of the conference attendees. So VZ's network is overloaded.
