The McLaren Speedtail - The New Ultimate Series Hyper-GT - McLaren Automotive

Quote:
A car like no other. A pure fusion of science and art in automotive form. The Speedtail is McLaren’s first ever Hyper-GT. Our most aerodynamically efficient car ever. And the fastest McLaren to date. With a pioneering 1050PS hybrid powertrain at its core. It brings together unprecedented levels of innovation and elegance to create a new benchmark in automotive design. And offers owners extraordinary opportunity for bespoke personalisation.
Kind of reminds me of the old Aerovette.

That photo was taken in Temple, Texas on October 13 1945. These heavy freight locomotives in the 3800 class, (numbers 3800 to 3940) could be found all over the system but primarily in the west with "helper" duty on the major mountain passes like Raton and Cajon quite common. In this photo two of these locomotives are helping to pull the El Capitan over Raton Pass sometime before WWII. The early diesels did not have the power to do it alone.

This is one of the kinds of early diesels used on passenger trains on the Santa Fe. Here they are refueling in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They did not have a proper fueling station early on so just parked some tank cars next to the train and trans-loaded diesel fuel from them.

Oh and check out the guy standing in the "OSHA approved" wheel barrow loading sacks of soiled linens from the diner onto a baggage cart.

That's an EMD FT diesel, I think... it has a shielded front light due to WW2 blackout regulations.

That's the old Fred Harvey Alvarado Hotel in the background. Demolished since.
Used to go there for Sunday dinner from time to time.

We moved to Albuquerque in the early 50's... took the SF El Capitan and Super Chief to LA several times.

And to Chicago... the Super Chief ran over 100 mph across the plains of eastern Colorado.

Thanks.

That is actually an EMD E6. The FTs were not used in passenger service until after the war. Yes, that photo was taken in March of 1943 so the locomotive was equipped with blackout provisions. This is another photo taken shortly before, that is on file at the Library of Congress showing a lot more of Albuquerque.

And now for some other random transportation.

Nice to see the old master back on the top step. Sure he made an "inspired" tyre choice but I think that's half the skill you need to win - I don't ever hear someone saying they made a good tyre choice in WRC, for some reason?!

Both the championships I'm invested in this year are going down to the wire. Quite exciting to watch, but also nerve-racking to say the least!
