Porsche 917 Concept Celebrates The Race Car's 50th Birthday

The company explains the red-and-white show car you see in the attached image at the top has been designed by “a small team of designers and engineers.” Unfortunately, Porsche makes it clear it will remain “purely a concept study.”

No other details are available at the moment (aside from the single image) and we expect the automaker to release more information closer to the concept’s appearance date at the Porsche Museum. The special exhibition will be held between May 14 and September 15 this year and will also include no less than ten 917 restored models with a combined power output of 7,795 horsepower.

Don't know this lady

But the old photo behind her of The Clifton House Hotel, has what looks like my
'29 Chev (now hot rodded) parked out front. Small town, very few cars back then, so it could be. Guess I'll never know for sure.

It's not a modern 917 for me.
It's just not radical enough

They could never design one anyway because it would conflict with every bit of common sense for safety this day and age.

Annual day! All good except found a small crack in the exhaust manifold. Removed and will be taken to a local air repair station that specializes in exhausts.

It’s been a long couple of years and a long laundry list of small items, oh yeah, life too. With this out of the way, I can focus on the 911. Yeah!!!!!

This guy’s aptitude is sorely lacking And it doesn’t matter if some one who hits him is insured or not. If Mr Pickup slams on his brakes to back some one off and gets hit, he is technically at fault and liable. He is the one needing superior insurance that’s if it isn’t cancelled for cause.

Hey heh. To be fair, there's no way to tell what inspired this guy to display that lettering. Tailgaters do their thing on 2-lane roads and city streets, too.

Tailgating is wrong, ill-advised, illegal, and stupid no matter when or where it occurs... and it is not "excused" in any way by saying, "the guy was blocking me."

No one should (try to) cause an accident by severe "brake checking," but if it happens, doesn't the person who hits them have to prove it was intentional on the part of the guy in front? I guess this is why dashcams are becoming more prevalent.

Overall, I like the car, but I was never a fan of that bizarre quad combination 2 hideaway-2 covered headlight layout/treatment.

An example of getting it right on a similarly sized car, IMO...

I agree with your observations, but it still has a wow factor, for me anyway.

A simple compliance with let's say headlight regulations (height) would ruin this design concept, and like you said this is more of a 918 warm over.

I saw the most interesting house today, hot red/pink with two kinds of vibrant green accents and white trim - it looked great in full sun.

Not colors I would have chosen but they pulled it off.

Porsche "903" design study from a student at the Art Center in Pasadena.

Not too shabby IMO!
