I don't remember 280 (race fuel?), but I did use 260 in my '69 SS396 Chevelle in the 70s.

A better pic of my '69 Chevelle SS396/350HP sometime in the mid-70s. Headers, either a Holley carb or modified quadrajet, maybe a cam, ran 12.9's at the strip.
