What make of car is this? Someone added the VW engine and perhaps the 356 parts. Maybe a coach-built, any ideas?

I talked with the owner, he's had it since 1971. Unfortunately, although he still had the originals, he replaced them with a 302 and 4sp auto. Oh well...
