Audi R8
Gotta say, I've seen a couple on the road and they look good. Even better than the pictures:

Beautiful cars. But you can't please everyone.
It's quite a bit heavier then the GT 3. I don't have the exact figure though.
I think they're ugly. Saw one in person as could not fathom the back of the car. Nose looks nice.
Never seen one in person, but they look great on TV and paper. Sound amazing as well.
I like their looks, except for the black vertical strip behind the doors. What's that about?
You can get that strip in a number of colors, or to match the body (blend in). It's an interesting styling element, works better with some colors than others.
Thanks Matt. Interesting idea, and I'll have to look at the color possibilities to see how it works. The only R8 I've seen was white with the black strip. Seeing the front of that car in my rearview mirror put a huge grin on my face. Seeing its back end as it flew by was pretty cool, too. :)

Read a test last week 997, M3, Lambo and this. Said it was a luxo bus and the softest car of the lot.
Ugly. Remarkably ugly. Supposed to be a great drive, though.
I really like it (but I'd still rather have a GT3).
GT3 is faster around a track...at least according to Clarkson
Next years model will be Diesel powered. It will be the 1st diesel powered super car.
I've seen a couple on the street, and on Monday there was a silver one at the Toronto autoshow. Its a stunning automobile with great details. I think the controversial blades are there to help break up the visual mass of the rear, which is quite bulky. I really like it, different then all the regular stuff.
If that V12 diesel comes to market, it will make for a very unique performance machine, and I think that's something to get excited about. I agree that the GT3 might be a better drivers car, but I could spend as much on a Carrera 4S as the R8, and at that point, I personally would choose the R8, much more interesting, and it will always be rarer than the dime a dozen 911 (although obviously I like that car, too!). |
