I can't believe that people ever tolerated dealers drilling holes in a brand-new car and affixing an ugly emblem/logo, but that's the way they did it in MN. when I was a kid. The logo gets dingy and rusty over time, plus rust grew from the holes they drilled.

I remember my Dad buying a new Mercedes SL back in the '70s and telling the dealer that if they put their emblem on the trunk, he would not take the car. They didn't do it, but only because the salesman believed him. They actually drilled holes and added an emblem to new Benzes, and people tolerated it. Un-freaking-believable.

What everyone else said; I would ask them how much they were going to knock off the lease every month for advertising. Asshats.

i have refused SEVERAL new cars for this exact reason...took my buisness elsewhere afterwards as well

I give you a good one. I ordered a Lexus GS400 with some very specific options back when they were originally coming out. I get the call that the car has finally arrived...

When I show up, they installed a body kit, wheels, exhaust, tinted glass, a windshield banner and pin stripes..... The guy tells me that he thought I'd like it better like that since he figured that having asked for different shocks, software and music system I would have appreciated all that stuff.

So they tell me to come back a week later when they would have the car back to normal (as ordered specs).... I told them to order a new one and I took a note of the S/N to make sure I did not ended up with a dealer modified car (which is exactly the reason I had a custom ordered car).

At least these days the dealer logos are stickers and not the riveted monstrosities of the past.

VP only used license plate frames, like every other dealer in CA. Completely different subject, those come off w/ a screwdriver in 5 minutes. Thousands of those VP frames went on their new BMWs, Porsches, and I think they had a VW dealer as well. How did anyone know that they would become valuable to the early 911 fetishists decades later; oh well, one more missed investment opportunity...:(

I always remove mine. An old boss of mine that worked at a local dealer told me a story of an old guy ordering a new car with out the logo (making sure it was in writing) and when he came to pick the car up and the logo was there (at that time they didn't use stickers, drill holes and insert badge) he refused the car all together because in his mind "what else did they do wrong/not do if they can't follow this simple request"

I would like to get a German dealer logo for my Targa - that would be cool.
