Top Gear

Any followers of BBC America's Top Gear here? I love that show. The 08 season started last night anyone see it?

onewhippedpuppy 02-26-2008 10:01 AM

Better question, who is NOT a fan of Top Gear? FYI, the shows on BBC America are about a season behind. The real spring '08 season ended about a month ago, but you have to download them to watch from the USA.

This episode was "The Search for the World's Best Driving Road" Hamond had a GT3RS, Jeremy had the Lambo Gallardo or whatever the Jr. sized one is called, and May had a race preped Astin that he just b*tched about the whole time and it looked slow too. Anyway, if you have seen this ep. I could not believe those roads! And the condition of them was excellent! I thought we were supposed to be the richest country in the world. Our roads looked like 3rd world donkey paths compared to these.

And oh yhea, what happened to 5th Gear, i.e., the one with the former F1 driver Tiff Needel. I never see those on anymore? Canceled? Maybe the Stig is Tiff Needel?

NICKG 02-26-2008 10:26 AM

final gear..again they have fifth gear and top gear torrent links

KWM,
Off the subject, but can you please let us know how you like the Enclave. I have been thinking about those lately.

onewhippedpuppy 02-26-2008 10:27 AM

5th Gear has a new season running now, you can download them on the link I posted above. Often times the clips show up on youtube. The most recent episode featured the Nissan GTR, I need to download that one.

NICKG 02-26-2008 10:27 AM

oh..if you saw the WHOLE british top gear..you'd love it more

gr8fl4porsche 02-26-2008 10:40 AM

Britain's Top Gear is my favorite show. I download a torrent episode thru Final Gear almost every day. I love the show except for the 'star in a reasonably priced car'. I fast forward during that boring segment.

onewhippedpuppy 02-26-2008 10:44 AM

I've always thought the "star in a reasonably price car" is the one segment that gets lost in translation. I find myself to be indifferent because they are largely British stars that I don't recognize. When I know the star, such as Simon Cowell, I find it very amusing. Were they American stars, I think we would get more out of it.

URY914 02-26-2008 10:51 AM

So who really is the Stig?

Fifth Gear (GTR review)

Ben Collins.

He drove in Top Gear for a couple segments; downhill race vs. offroad skateboarder, skydiver landing inside a moving Mercedes stunt, etc. He was also listed as "high speed technical consultant" or something to that effect in the official report of Richard Hammond's big crash in the jet car.

I don't know how well this video backs up the claim but you can watch it anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeQwi-8bCEA

Get rid of cable. Dish network has BBC America & it is aired regularly.

gprsh924 02-26-2008 02:46 PM

BBC America sucks though, cuz the shows are edited. Unless they got rid of commercials and put back in the extra content on BBC America, the downloads will still win out.

kwm 02-26-2008 03:39 PM

steve PH I could not get the torrents to work off of Final Gear any ideas why?

There is much speculation about this....

Its a common misconception in certain parts of the world.

Theyve been building roads for some time there. Problem is, they all seem to go to Rome....

Thats a great epsidode. I cant remember if "The Road" was in Italy or Switzerland, but if you want driving roads, Italy is amazing. B, C and even D roads that wind through hills, up mountains, through valleys, around lakes- all perfect asphalt , and mostly empty. Some dont even go anywhere, coming to an abrupt end in some tiny village. And the Italians also understand driving.

I nearly laughed myself stupid at Stig in/out of the giant tractor.

Quiet simply, the best thing on TV. Whether you like cars, across many cultures, matters not. Actually think these guys could apply the same formula of wit, humour, production (very high, big budget stuff) to almost anything and make great TV.

Top Gear reminds each week why I havent thrown the TV out the window.
