widespread power outages affecting Florida started when the company shut down a nuclear reactor south of Miami for safety reasons, but did not explain further.

Florida Power & Light = Florida Flicker & Flash.

We are just commenting in the office how something relatively small can set the entire state on its ear.

My phone lines are jammed up with an all circuits busy message. I cannot call Ft. Lauderdale.

My fax line is locked up with the same message and my internet crashed for an hour too.

I am on a South Florida web site and I also had a pool contractor in my office and there are full on outages all over Dade county or the Miami area. Some outages as far north as West Palm as well.

I read it has something to do with the Nuke Plant going offline and they hope to be back up and running by about 5.

Duh, the link says most of what I typed.

What I heard on the news was that the Nuke plant (Turkey Point) ws not the stating point of the problem, it shutdown as part of a controlled shutdown due to grid instability caused by???

I only had a flicker for 2/3 seconds and no dsl for 1 hour.

There was a patient in the OR under anesthesia when the power went out...and the building back-up generator didn't kick on! Luckily the doc kept his cool and they pumped the patient with air manually. Whew. Not sure if the patient ever knew what happened. :(
