Point well taken, Wayne. I will take the kinder, gentler pledge.

Mule 02-27-2008 10:15 AM

Sorry if I have caused you any difficulties Wayne. This is a first class, well run operation that I greatly appreciate.

KFC911 02-27-2008 10:16 AM

Thanks Wayne, we needed that! Poopyhead :)

Porsche-O-Phile 02-27-2008 10:21 AM

Hear hear!!!

Guys, the temptation is only going to get worse as election day approaches to get more and more vitrolic and caustic with respect to postings - political ones in particular. Let's all try to keep it civil (goes for me too).

PPOT is a special place. Let's keep it that way. More good discussion, humor, insight and P-cars. Less religion, politics and other stuff. In general, a little bit of religion/politics discussion occasionally is fine if it doesn't result in the "same old" stuff with threads being hijacked by the same 4-5 people who make dozens of posts on the same subject ad nauseum.

Nuh uh! Keith is a big mister stinky pants!

I'm with Jeff, one or two civil political or religious discussions (if that is even possible) are fine but lately mean spirited posts are starting to take over PPOT.

And IMHO berating someone for paragraphs and then trying to sanitize it by finishing with "but I respect your right to your opinion" doesn't quite cut it.

I'll do my best to pretend the other guys here are worthy of respect.

I've got something to say. Again. I've been a Pelicanhead for probably seven years now. Early on, it was the Warren Hall Show on the technical board. I was consumed with hunger for P-information. Very quickly, I came to develop a healthy respect for Wayne and this site. Respect turned to admiration. Admiration evolved into amazement. I have said many times, though not lately, that certain elements of Wayne's policies are responsible for the incredible success of this site. The freedom he allows us is one of those key policies. The respect he encourages us to acknowledge for one another is also a key ingredient. Let's take those to heart. As you guys know, I am hungry for dialogue regarding public policy. I think it is important. I think what is most wrong with our political system is ignorance. Isolation. There MUST be a community dialogue. We are running this country (unless it is no longer a democracy) and discussions like we have here are vital to the interests of America. Thank you Wayne, for the venue to have these discussions and the leadership you and your people deliver that makes this venue accessible and productive.

Guys, let's drop the ****. Drop the bull****. Drop the caricaturizations. The ad hominem attacks. Let's find the common ground. We are being neither honest nor productive when we villify one another. With the exception of Legion, we all have something of value to offer.

pmajka 02-27-2008 10:45 AM

I think Wayne spends way to much time in OT. Wait, am I here again?
DOH!

Porsche-O-Phile 02-27-2008 10:47 AM

There's a lot of love in here right now. . .

*wink, wink*

Not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

In general this is THE best board I've ever been on. For the most part, people are good at self-moderating and will apologize if they "cross the line" and step on someone's toes. That shows a level of maturity that is increasingly rare in society and even more so on the Interweb. It's refreshing. I guess let's just all take a few steps back occasionally (goes for me too) and think before hitting the button, like Wayne said. I'm guilty of making a few "posts in passion" too. Time for some fresh air I guess. . .

legion 02-27-2008 10:48 AM

I enjoy this place. I had a good, civil debate with MRM over Obama yesterday. No name calling, no slander.

And see, I edited my post dropping the references to being baited by a self-important, condescending member here on PPOT. Perhaps I should have left them in.

WI wide body 02-27-2008 10:52 AM

Wayne, this is your forum and it should be by your rules. The OT is mostly gibberish anyhow and just a way to waste some time during the off season!

However, the Tech Forum is just great along with often being a valuable source for info and the 911 Classified Used Parts offers a great place to buy or sell our un-needed stuff. So thanx much for all of that.

And in the spirit of calming it down and not doing dumb things I will vow not to post any pics except of cars and no YouTube videos at all. ;)

URY914 02-27-2008 10:55 AM

Post pictures not flames.

Amen to that!

dd74 02-27-2008 11:37 AM

Yes, it is time things calm down here in PPOT. I'll start by calming myself down.

PPOT is an online extension of the Porsche community, made up of real people. All types of folks. Some come here with time to kill, others seek meaningful help. As with all social interaction, there is a time and place for everything. It is important to keep this in mind when posting.

And even in the "mostly gibberish" threads, it is important to remain level-headed. It seems we all enjoy a good debate - but when it deteriorates to name calling and inapporpriate posting - that's no good.

Happy posting,
-Z-man, OT Mod/Admin

scottmandue 02-27-2008 11:52 AM

What kills me is we agree and enjoy eighty to ninety percent of the same things.

Then we rip each other apart on the ten to twenty percent of things we disagree on.

hytem 02-27-2008 11:59 AM

Keep the hate stuff out of here. "Hitlery" makes me want to throw up.

Porsche-O-Phile 02-27-2008 12:00 PM

She makes me want to throw up too. :)

911Rob 02-27-2008 12:17 PM

Thanks Wayne;
You're right on spot man. Again.

I've seriously thought about just dropping my membership.
I have a hard time finding humor at the expense of others, which is becoming a norm here.
My old 74s gone, I hardly lift up the engine lid on my 993 and have now reverted to OT.
One of the draws is that people actually post here; often. Other boards/forums go days/weeks without a post or reply.

I'll do my part and lets give it another whirl.
I have nothing but the greatest respect for Wayne, Zman and nostatic; from the bottom of my heart I wouldn't do anything to offend you guys!

Sup's Quote from above ;)

+1 and that would be 100% agreement :)
