BMW Wheels

I've been searching for a new daily driver and have this BMW on my radar. I've been looking for wagons, but will at least take a look at this one tomorrow. It's a '98 528i with 72k miles.

One thing that stands out to me are these wheels. Are they standard? They look very deep in the pictures.

Any other thoughts or comments are appreciated.

Not an OEM BMW wheel, something aftermarket. Potentially heavy and easy to bend. BMWs are very sensitive to wheel choice, bent wheels are very noticable (so you'll know it).

Not a bad looking car, but a slushbox?:( M5 bumper is a nice look. Good price? Make sure it's had cooling system components replaced like the radiator and waterpump, as well as a suspension rebuild. If it hasn't been done, it will probably be needed before 100k.

Good price? I don't know yet. He's asking $9800.

He bought it last year, and his wife hated the rear wheel drive in the winter.

Looking at those tires I can imagine why. Good set of Blizzaks and you will be good to go.

Have you seen this? If my wife was able or wanted to drive a stick I would have checked it out.

Plus it is here in MN.

Not bad for the miles, just so it's in excellent shape. Nice 528i's are easy to find for under $10k. Just make sure some of that maintenance is done. I'd take a higher mileage BMW with repairs done vs a low mileage example with upcoming maintenance issues.

That's what I want. Touring, sport package, stick, low miles, and maintenance is done on it. Nice!

Yeah, sounds like a fair deal. I do not know the seller but have seen his other cars and I bet it is as described.

That one sold this morning. The search continues...

If the wheels are the only thing you don't like, OEM BMW wheels aren't really that bad. I mean, if you're ok with stock "boring" wheels with no bling or anything, I mean. Specialty wheels will always be expensive, but relatively standard ones tend to go pretty affordably. The ones that are on my car right now only cost me $200, with (used) rubber installed. The ones that I pulled off, now straightened and refinished, have failed to sell on eBay for $700 -- that's for all 4 wheels, not per each.

So if you're thinking that Bimmers are like Porkers, and the wheels are a super-expensive option to fix ... well, they're not Fuchs.

I like the wheels that are on this car. I assumed they were OEM and that maybe I'd found something akin to deep 6's.

Style 5s are a great E39 wheel, they were OEM on many of the E39s with the sport package. Lightweight, strong 3-piece wheel made by BBS.
