Triumph Thruxton
 

Probably pulling the trigger on one of these, anyone out there have any good reasons to talk me out of it?

a guy i work with owns one. all the retro cool. without the crappy electrical systems. he participates in some sort of thruxton owner track day program. had to upgrade the forks and shocks before the thing would corner properly. but that was his only compliant. you shouldn't notice a problem on the street.

Love those bikes. I'll second the retro cool without the crappy electrical. Imagine that; a Triumph that runs every day...

they still have some niggles, but solid bike. Not high on performance though. More cool than scoot. Lots of mods for them...South Bay Triumph down here builds some very cool versions and has a bunch of customs parts.

What kind of riding do you anticipate doing?

I like the bike but I would get tired of it pretty quickly if it were my only ride.

I have a 2007 Bonneville and love it. Yes it is not the oh so cool bike like a Duc or an Aprilla that you must have if you live in SoCal, but it is still a great bike for riding around on. If you want to save some money there are still some new 2007's floating around out there. Great forum for Triumph riders here (they are doing a system upgrade today) http://www.triumphrat.net/

Triumphs rock. I wouldn't have it as my commuter, but it would be a fun weekend cruiser.

Great looks, mediocre performance without spending more than it's worth to improve, but a good value stock. The main knock on it is the painfully low bars, which isn't a big deal to fix. Probably also want the optional exhaust, too.

Actually the Bonnie and Thruxton are plenty cool around these parts. They just aren't really "performance" bikes out of the box. Plus Italian character is different than British character. Neither is better...just different. However from a performance standpoint my oh so cool Aprilia will in fact smoke a Thruxton on all counts. For roughly the same amount of money (assuming you do a mod or two to the Thruxton). I looked at a lightly used Thruxton that had at least $20K into it. Asking price was $9K. I think it is still for sale.

Do the front tires of Triumphs still bounce on the pavement when the bike is stopped with the engine running?

maybe they're a little buzzy on the interstate. and you can't get a girl on the back. but you can have plenty of fun, more than enough to kill yourself, with 50hp.

i scream through the canyons north of town, and am barely using half my bikes potential. no, the thruxton will not run with a modern sportbike. but they're not meant to.

I pick it up next week. (red one) It will be a weekend cruiser that I keep at the lake cottage. I figure I can get a few rides with the buddies before our wives even wake up. It will be the second street bike I've owned, mostly off road bikes in the past. Maybe it will be a pretty neat item 20 years down the road. Thanks for the input.
