Tweeks/Mid America Out of the Porshce parts business

I have to say that I have not needed any parts for a while, and even then I use right here...Pelicanparts. I did use Tweeks now and then. They carried the PCA logo stuff for a while. I got a Corvette catalog last week from them.
I did have a Corvette years ago but never got a catalog from them or
ever bought anything from them. I called to ask to be taken off their mailing list and to get a Porsche catalog... for my "reading room" just found out
they are out of the Porsche parts business. I guess Pelican put a hurt on them.

Did Pelican put a hurt on the Sharper Image too?

It's an economic trend..............it will get worse before it gets better.

The country is belt tightening ya know.

The writing was on the wall when Mid-America, a corvette parts specialist, bought out tweeks...

Wayne's success with Pelican has really been nothing short of miraculous, IMO. I have followed it since the beginning.

The car parts business is so cut throat and competitive, with big sellers, small sellers, relatively low barriers to entry, razor thin margins, etc. etc. The chances of success for a new entrant are, IMO, very small. That Wayne has managed to make it a success really is a testament to his creativity and hard work. 99.9% of people would have failed.

Things were going downhill at Mid-America three years ago. I attended what turned out to be the last "Porsche Funfest" in Effingham, IL.

Within six months they had stopped replenishing their inventory.

I lucked out with them though...managed to pick up a couple of extra fog light lenses for my old '72 before they dropped Porsche Parts...Pelican told me these were NLA. The lenses are now carefully stored in a not so secret garage in Instanbul.

Hi Chuck! Sorry we missed you a few weeks back at the Waterfront Grill. We've got a run out to Caddo Lake (Uncertain, TX) scheduled for some good catfish in a few Saturdays! Only in Texas: Catfish restaurant/gun shop under 1 roof with Glen Miller on the jukebox!

Yep I was there too. They put on the absolute best event. Free food, entertainment. Guess 300 Porsches at an event is not worth it when they get 3000 Corvettes or 10,000 VW's!

I don't believe they ever WANTED to be in the Porsche business. I stopped there last spring when traveling through Effingham on business. I asked about the Porsche parts and the staff person there stated that all they wanted from buying Tweeks were some of the vendor connections and some equipment that Tweeks owned. They intended to kill it from the onset of the purchase.

This employee stated that the "Porsche people are much too picky and hard to deal with and they think their cars are superior ro the Corvettes athat are our core business." Nice guy! He further stated that they had a chance to buy out the current failing Porsche business named PP but they passed on the opportunity when approched.

I just shook my head and left with no intention of returning. I got a catalog in the mail that I returned to sender and called tham and asked to be removed from their mailing list.

Yeah, they have the air cooled VW stuff still, but how long will that last, guess VW guys are not as picky as Porsche guys

Talk about a self-serving lie Jay!

They wouldn't have signed a deal with PCA nor hosted a Funfest (or two) if their intention was to kill off the line from the outset.

No, they got into a business where they really didn't understand the customer and now blame the customer for their failure.
