full page of french reds at Harrah's Steakhouse but all of 4 from spain, arg., etc?

Went on an overnight to Atlantic City Sunday and was REALLY looking forward to eating at the steakhouse at Harrah's. They advertise a 'wine room' enclosed in glass. I kinda expected a really nice selection of red wine at a hoity toity steakhouse but what i got was a full page of french reds and maybe 4 non-french non-US reds. Oh there were maybe 4 Italian selections as well. NONE very interesting either. Really bummed on that. i just don't know french reds and what i have tried did not make me think 'steak!'.

Did split a bottle of Willamette Valley Vineyards PN with another guy in our group (bosses son's bachelor party, all guys in the office went) and it was pretty good but i was really digging the idea of something else.

edit: service was very good, lambchops were massive, bread was the best i've had (even pretzel rolls!) and the wine was actually served at correct temp.

Well, God only knows the French can't make a decent bottle of red wine. I like Italian reds as much as the next guy, but I would kill to have that many choices from France. I usually only buy Spanish or Australian, or ******* reds when I find nothing from France or Italy.

My suggestion would be to start trying a few French reds. Gotta be a few that you'd like.

i will make an effort to work through some french wines.

tough work but somebody has got to do it if we have any hope of enjoying a good steak AND a good wine at the same damn time when no Eyetalian or Spanish wines are available.

I've been in the alcohol business for over 4 years. I deal specifically with wine as my company represents over 6,000 different wines and I can tell you there is a TON to learn about French wines. So much that I stopped learning at about 10%. The good thing is their laws are SO strict on wines that almost anything is pretty tasty.

If anyone is ever in Atlanta and needs a bottle or two shoot me a PM.
