IT'S WHERE YOU CALL WHEN YOU HAVE A TECHNICAL PROBLEM WITH YOUR COMPUTER.

Shaun @ Tru6 05-09-2008 10:48 AM

For me, it's the random piles of rubble that are cause for concern.

Palum6o 05-09-2008 10:54 AM

I was waiting to see a kid with bare feet try to fly his kite or something.

Its much, much worse than that. Was in Mumbai yesterday and just found out that we are heading to forking new delhi tomorrow. Oh joy....

Stay far, far away from this place unless you have a lot of antibotics...

onewhippedpuppy 05-09-2008 02:28 PM

That makes my head hurt.

Oh come on, its not THAT bad. If you can get passed the stench of urine and cow crap, Indias beautiful. :D

We always stay in top end hotels when we are on the road in India. AC and a decent martini always take the edge off a rough day in the wilds on an Indian city.

I never thought that a photograph could capture the essence of a bad smell.

Those pictures do.

Without ever having been there, I can only imagine the olfactory assault that results from such a place.

nostatic 05-09-2008 04:46 PM

The public bathrooms just outside the Forbidden City have an incredibly potent smell.

I've never had the inclination to go to India, but friends say it is amazing. I'd rather stick to China and southeast Asia.

Worse than the "solar toilet" on the Mount Whitney trail?

Egads. I've never wanted to get the hell out of a place and get to climbing 99 switchbacks up a couple of thousand feet so badly. . .

I think they deliberately sited it there just to keep people from hanging around there. The smell is. . . "pungent" to say the least.

Actually, either there or Tijuana have to be the most revolting-smelling places I've ever encountered.

jjwood 05-09-2008 05:52 PM

My boss has been in Chennai for the last month. Said the temp there is 112F. Too damn hot for me. No wonder that all the shipping docs I get from there are "screwed up".

I've traveled a great deal and have a burning desire to see Asia and Russia. India is NOT on my list. I'd rather spend a week with my mother in law. OK. That was a lie.

India is a crazy adventure. I spent a month there about ten years ago. Remember to bring toilet paper, or you will be stuck using your right hand and "cleaning it" in a bucket of used water.

Is it true that dead people can be seen lying in the streets from time to time?

Yea but you have to go from the airport to the sedan, then to the hotel and its sheer madness all the way there and back.

Ask me about it tomorrow, am heading to New Delhi in a few hours! Not looking forwards to it BTW.

I have seen that in several countries around the world. Once they get bloated someone finally picks them up and disposes of them somewhere. Its not a pretty sight.

That's what the Brits always said...except you need to get with the program.

Gin and Tonic

Actually a good story. I was sitting in the airport waiting for my flight out of Bombay (When it was still Bombay!) and I ordered a vodka tonic. They didn't have any tonic. So I ordered a Vodka with soda water, pulled out a chloroquinine tablet, scrapped some off into the drink, added a little sugar: BINGO vodka tonic!
