Actually the new turbines are 2 megawatts. 1 megawatt is generally considered to supply enough juice for 1 thousand people. There are already quite a few around here and with his 660+ and another 5-600 in the pipeline from 4 or 5 other players the once good for nothing panhandle of Texas with the omnipresent winds is good for something.
The downside is you have to have a backup if and when the wind isn't blowing. That is about 1 day a week 2 tops. The backups are either coal fired boilers or gas fired.
