Who has their plot and headstone?
Thinking about getting the final dirt nap location and stone all lined up. At 49 I should have a few years left but you never know, Anyone else planning ahead this far?
|
for me, just throw another log on the fire.
Much better than rotting in a box. Besides, if you're ashes scattered someplace, you don't really care if someone else with the same name gets buried next to your mother instead of you. |
When my Dad died 14 years ago (almost exactly...) we purchased 4 plots next to eachother. Dad is on one end, Mom will go next to him, and either the other 2 will be sold or my brother and I will end up in 'em...

I recommend it. I have my plot but no headstone. My father died unexpectedly about 10 years ago. There is a small country cemetary nearby so that's where we wanted him burried, and we wanted to start a family area. Turns out there were only 4 spots left in any one area, so we took them to keep the family together. My father in law died unexpectedly a few years later and my wife and I wanted to burry him next to my father, but my (now ex mother, I don't talk to her) threw a fit so my wife and I bought a set of plots nearby. If being able to chose your location and save enough space around you to allow for family to be near by, I strongly recommend getting your plots squared away early. It feels kind of odd, but the cemetary that I used to explore as a kid now includes my father and father in law, an uncle, who I go to visit, and space I walk by, knowing I will be there one day as well. Very sobering. It's a good feeling to have.

I'm planning on cremation and my family can do whatever they want with my cremains, no plot for me...
|
Apparently there is a company that will take one's ashes and make them into a diamond - that might be a cool way to be remembered; perhaps on a ring or nice necklace.
:) Best, |
Hefty Bag and the curb is all I need.
|
I'd rather spend my cash on fuel than on a hole in the ground, but hope you find a nice place to rest if that is what you choose to do.
My dust is going off a cliff on the west coast of Ireland, myself and the dog riding the Atlantic waves together one last time :) |
Cremation for me thanks.

The real estate is out of site. My sister passed in Jan. My folks who are pushing 80, did not buy years ago when the plots were reasonable. My folks bought 4 plots, the funeral, headstone, casket ect was 50K plus. This is in newport beach, ca though.

I want to rot out in the woods...

Another here for cremation.

Another here for cremation.

Planning on a cremation, and a coffee can would be appropriate. Then sprinkled around here and there.

into the toaster, then the 'rainbow bridge'. Got some old friend's waiting.

Toss my ashes in the wind for all I care.
|
Burn my dumb ass up. Is burial a religious thing or what? Why would you want that?
|
|
I too have mine planned out, cremation, then 1/4 of my ashes get mixeed into paint and my 78 SC repainted with it, 1/4 gets spread at my favorite tracks durring races, and the rest will be spread over Bimini:cool:

A waste of good land. I'll be dead I won't care.

You guys are missing the point. Its not for YOU, its for you're loved ones to have a place to grieve. My grandfather was buried and we visit his grave, my grandmother was not (cremated), and I cant explain it, but it we don't have a place to go to 'visit', so it's always a very empty feeling when we think of her.
|
This is true. If you want a place where the decendents of your family can visit the ancestors and remember where they came from, and you want it to be in one cemetary where everyone is close to one another, you need to plan ahead and pick out a good spot with room for everyone.

There will be a day when land is worth so much, grave yards will be dug up & built on, it is already happening in some places. |
No plot for me, I want cremation. I have a spot located above a lake where my loved ones can picnic and view the beautiful lake down below. Trees, grass, and all 4 seasons. It's still a location for all to meet. Oh well, thats what I want, but the wife might have other ideas.

Me? Hefty bag or perhaps the box the new Maytag came in...
|
Picked mine out years ago. Fly overhead Bassett Peak in SE Arizona and open the container.

Not putting anyone down here but I will never understand this notion that my descendents will need a place to grieve for me - what? I think it is wildly self-important to believe that years later I will have folks coming back to look at where I rotted away, I don't want that.
I think leave people some writing, photos, video, something that illustrates who you were in character, not a filled-in hole under a shady tree. I never go to visit my grandparents' graves (they are 600 miles away for one thing) but I think about them every day. Same with my wonderful Uncle Sean, who's remberance card is on my refridgerator door next to a pic of my wife in a bikini (he would love that). No way is it an empty feeling to not be visiting a grave, more like a liberating feeling. Remember people in life, not in death. |

Here's the new web-based obit website, hoping to make obsolete another function of newspapers: http://www.legacy.com/Obituaries.asp
And a slick website on some of the issues of death and different ways to "go": http://www.obit-mag.com/ For the composters, how about a bio-degradable Ecopod?: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1210859736.jpg http://www.obit-mag.com/viewmedia.php/prmMID/262 For the cremation folks who want a burial at sea, the "Shell": http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1210859775.jpg http://www.obit-mag.com/viewmedia.php/prmMID/284 And for the folks who want to be around a bit longer, some possibilities: http://www.obit-mag.com/viewmedia.php/prmMID/4971 |
I don't have my plot picked out yet, but have been looking over cemetery records trying to find somebody with the same name as me.
