Motion sickness preventer for my 15 y/o son

Any advise? We are leaving Thursday for a 1800+ mile trip in my RX7, once we are in North Carolina there will be some spirited driving on some mountain roads.

The last time I had him with me on the Tail of the Dragon he blew chunks. I was in the 911 and not driving very hard. I will probably be pushing quite a bit harder in the 7 and do not want him to get sick again. I also do not want him to be messed up from anti-motion sickness medicine.

Whats good?

Dramamine and a beer.....and some pot.....and a hooker.

But just Dramamine should do the trick.

15? Shiiiit man - let him drive. If you get pulled over - just pull the old palpatations routine.

When you are dead and buried - he will still love you.

3/4 inch hitch receiver mounted on the Rex...

Small sport trailer from U-haul...

Duct tape the kid in the trailer and go to town on the Tail

Seriously, there are some wristbands out there with plastic balls in them that press on pressure points...there are some anti-seasickness ones. Ask yer friendly doctor, unless he's anti-holistic, in which case, ask your local acupuncturist.

On a recent cruise I tried "the patch" and it worked good for me. After a while I could look out the dinning room window, see the horizon bobbing up and down, and it didn't bother me a bit.

I mooched the patchs off my sister in law who bought a whole box of them for her children so I don't know where she got them.

My niece and nephew didn't like the way they made you feel, a very mild light headiness, a sensation I was paying seven bucks a drink at the bar for!

I get a lot of motion sickness. One of the worst days in my life was a 24 hr trip from Spain to England in a ferry when I could not stop throwing for the whole trip.

Last week I was the navigator in a historic car rallye and the dramamine (well, the local Spanish equivalent) did the trick. I had the caffeine version and I only got sleepy around 5:00 am (the race ended at 6:30 am)

I here you on the dragon. Every single person who has ridden with me on there has gotten sick including my black lab.

If you don't want him to get sick let him drive. I know on a boat that is the best way. Good luck man.

BTW Dramamine or the patch need to be taken two to four hours before the activity.

Have him looking at the road as far ahead as possile and eat ginger snaps (cookies, buy the good ones!) starting when you leave. Both are old sailor remedys that work well with a significant percentage of the population.

There is also a clip that goes on your ear lobe, works pretty good, saved me from chumming the waters during a deep sea fishing trip

Are you sure it wasn't all that Sangria you were drinking the night before that caused you to get sick.

I had a student driver at the track that made me nauseous.
He gave me some peppermint gum.

Worked for me.

( Don't drink coffee on an empty stomach before a session either )

Dramamine isn't that good.

There is a patch that you stick behind your ear that is about the size of a small round band-aid. You will need to get it through a perscription from a doctor however the stuff works for real. I've taken dramamine and puked my guts out until I was dehydrated because the stuff don't work. The patches work great as I've been on some serious rough seas while using it. I can not think of what the actual medicine is called however I'm sure if you ask a Doc about the patch for motion sickness they will know exactly what you need.

I probably posted that I was in the Navy about 15 times but anyways I would get sea sick all the damn time. Dramamine worked for me but I started taking it the day before or at least 12 hours before. After one or two days at sea I didn't need them anymore.

I used to get airsick every time I went flying as a kid. Dramamine didn't work, the little zapper thing on my wrist didn't work, the only things that worked were eating real ginger snap cookies and looking out the window.

The worst thing you can do is look inside the car at something that isn't moving. Essentially what is happening is your brain senses motion yet you are seeing stationary objects and you get sick. Try involving him in the driving process somehow, for example teach him where you are looking on the road as you drive "I'm looking through the apex of the turn and not at it, I am rolling on the throttle now and the boost should hit just past the apex...etc.".

Does your son know how to shift? My dad started me on shifting the car when I was around 10 years old. He would tell me when the clutch was "UP" or "DOWN". I knew that "DOWN" meant I could shift. He taught me where the gears were and would call out what gear he wanted. I started out learning in his F150 with 4 on the floor and a granny 1st. Then I learned on his Mazda 626 5 speed. I also racked up a few miles shifting his 1930 Model A coupe. It was obviously a slow learning process but I quickly learned how to shift a car without having to learn how to drive it. You could turn it into a learning game..."What gear does this corner look like?" and let him see that 3rd is going to be way too high by actually doing it. Involving him like this might keep his mind off of being sick.
