Another guitar question, Gotoh Vintage style tuners
I bought a set of Vintage style Gotoh tuners to replace the crapola tuners my son's Squier Mini-Strat came with. I got them today and they have a slot at the top instead of a hole. Is the idea to just lay the string over the slot and then wrap the tuner as usual??

lay the string across the slot. As you're turning it and winding the string on the peg, wind it so that the string passes over the part laying in the slot, then next revolution underneath the part in the slot. That will help keep it nice and firmly in there.
