Then please explain to me why Bob Dylan was not a leader..At Newport he was booed for going electric. Two years later everybody was electric.

Explain to me why people in Lincolns own cabinet thought he was a monkey

I'll make this simple: Leaders whose followers leave them, aren't leaders.

The only change we need to accept is that the US is not able to stand alone against the rest of the world (we never could). We are no longer the only gorillia in the room. This is the change for the 21st Century. And the POTUS wil need to embrace that change. McCain cannot. Who knows about Obama.

Writing in the Financial Times, Greenspan called the current crisis -- which started a year ago -- a once or twice in a century event and said insolvency would only end once U.S. house prices stabilized, underpinning mortgage-backed securities.

The Great Depression was the last such sea change.

You did NOT explain Bob Dylan...who is an example of a leader who was BOOOED...and then followed once again as never before...If you can not explain then you need to rethink your proposition.

Huge Dylan fan here. But I wouldn't make too much of Newport. Yes he was booed, but in his autobiography he says that he only went electric because he liked the sound. It wasn't really this mythical break with the folk movement that he was after. He just liked the sound, and wanted to distance himself from the Peter, Paul and Mary crowd a bit—which turned out to be a smart career move.

Dylan a leader of men? I don't think so.

The more I've learned about Dylan the more elusive the guy becomes. That seems also to be the take of the two most recent bio-pics about the guy. Some days I think he's the greatest charlatan in the history of music. Still I can think of no one I'd rather have a few drinks with.

A leader in thinking, in paticular music?

He just liked the sound and wanted to distance himself from the conventional...And here is an example of a guy leading musicians without even having formulated a plan...

Maybe. Possibly. But I don't see him that way any more. I think he always just did what he wanted and somehow hit the zeitgeist. Maybe there's a kind of random leadership in that.

Dylan did wind up representing the Zeitgeist of the time as its personification...however he knew by some process exactly where it was...he listened to a little voice inside of himself and trusted that voice...

Neil Young alludes to the same thing.

no, I just know the definition of a leader, and while your Hallmark card synopsis sounded nice, it was fraught with logic holes that you could drive a semi through.

Ralph Macchio didn't really play the guitar in that movie. It was Stave Vai.

Pretty sure you're right for the slide stuff. Head cuttin' I believe was pretty much all Vai.
Combination of the two.
A tie.

Shauny, what qualities seperates a leader from the herd? Leadership by commitee is called a mob.
