wrecked my truck today

The other driver was 100% at fault.

Here's the story:

I on the way home from work with my trailer behind me.
I'm about 10 minutes from home and coming up to a stop sign at about 10-15 mph when from the left comes this older pickup trying to make a right turn and NOT GONNA!

The rear end of his truck stepped out and he started sliding out of control across my lane.
He was going 45-50 mph and glanced off the front of my truck facing me.

It was a head-on but he was traveling from left to right from my point of view.
There was NO POSSIBLE way to avoid him.

My left leg hit the lower dash and the airbags did not deploy.
There were three young boys in the other truck.

The driver came around to see if I was OK.
I wasn't sure if my leg was OK, but one of young guys was messed up.
Broken/dislocated shoulder/arm. I got out and tried to help him.

We put him up on my tailgate and I put something under his head and tried to keep him calm un til the EMT's showed up.

This is where the story gets weird.
The driver says that somebody was chasing him with a gun and he was trying to get away.
He tells me this right at my window and tell this to the police on the scene.

Later, the guy that was 'chasing him' shows up to talk to the police from a distance without the driver at fault knowing. The 'gun' was a cell phone. The driver was calling in a reckless driver and the 911 call logs pinpoint it right before our little get together.

I'm not real thrilled about dealing with all the insurance hassle and trying get my truck replaced.
Blue Book is $19500.

I'm nervous about having the bodywork done and dealing with engine/trans problems and alignment etc.

I just started a big tile job this week. At least the homeowner is understanding and says for me to take my time.
"The floor will get done when it get's done". Great client!

There you have it.

Glad you're okay!

Oh man that sucks. At least big diesels are cheap right now. Oh and you can now upgrade to a dodge with a cummins.

Weird story. Glad you walked away from it. Funny, but the truck doesn't look totaled. But heck, you'd know better than I.

slodave 08-13-2008 08:25 PM

Sorry to hear about this. I'm glad you are OK. You're not doing too well in the car/truck department this summer!

The fenders and engine compartment are pushed from driver's to passenger's side.

Looking head on you can see the driver's side tire, but on the passenger side you cannot.

19500? no problemo...you are going to get a better truck, and if lucky..some pocket money.

trek, thankfully, you are ok.

Ditto, the story is a load of crap told by the kid to try to make it not his fault. I've heard lots of other stories in the past and considered telling some.

Could have been a lot worse. At least it was just frustrating and a PITA.

Sucks about the truck.

Glad your O.K. Kids screwing around never thinks of what might happen.
Cummings......:D

Glad your ok, hope everything works out for you.

Geez Trek bad break,, do you need it to get your car to your track day on the 28th at Fernley?
Sort of the same thing happened to my Step Dad a couple years ago,, but the guy who hit him ended up hanging from the trees in the woods next to him.. The kicker was the guy was 87, speeding, and had a heart attack!! He still got sued by the estate!!! Be thankful you're ok and have insurance..

Whew! Glad you were not seriously hurt. The truck can be replaced (Easily with as good or better for the price right now). One thing...you're going to have to change those odds under your avatar, brah!;)

Thanks for the laugh.

I hope this settles out quickly.
How long does it take.

This is my first wreck.

things can be replaced

I imagine hitting a truck pulling a trailer full of tile would sort of tweak your frame some.

Do you have rental coverage on your insurance?

trekkor 08-13-2008 10:02 PM

I'll know more about what my insurance will do in the morning.

I have full commercial coverage. Allstate.
