Nasty Injury at the Olympics

This is good reason why I don't like to watch weight lifting because the injuries resemble something similar to car accident......pretty ugly stuff. The "no $hit" quote of the Olympics came from the technical director, Benny Johansson. He said "It looked really awful,"

Thats so sad to come this far and have that happen.

Same with the girl gymnasts who all seemed to have tripped/fallen, etc...

I thought it was interesting that the gys with the "privacy boards" were there as quick as the medical team.

Is that a broken bone or torn ligaments?

Looks like a snapped bone to me along with anything else that could snap!

It's not a broken bone, he blew his elbow out of joint. It's not an uncommon injury in his chosen field. You can see he lost his balance (or at least the bar) and tried to get back under it. That puts all that weight on his arms and the elbow is the weakest joint. And yes it can be as painfull as a full on break.

It'll probably hurt worse today. Poor guy. That has to be a major bummer, making it that far and having something so stupid completely wipe you out.

Yep, watching the video looks like a dislocated elbow - which certainly involved tearing soft tissue...from the still photos, I initially thought it was possibly a spiral fracture or distal fracture of the humerus...poor guy, that's going to take a while to heal.

After watching the video I bet his back hurts almost as much as his elbow does because the bar bounced off of it when his elbow dislocated.
