DENVER -- Individuals arrested at the Democratic National Convention will be processed at an industrial warehouse with chain-link cells topped by razor wire, a facility some have compared to the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay.
...
Video footage of the north Denver warehouse on Denver’s KCNC-TV showed coils of razor wire topping chain-link cells. A sign read: “Electric stun devices used here.”

Gale said each cell will be about 20-by-20 feet. He refused to say how many people could be processed there.

“It’s just ridiculous, the thing looks like a dog pound,” said Mark Cohen of the protest group Recreate-68 Alliance. “Even if you only put dogs in there, people will be complaining about it. I think you ought to have the Red Cross and Amnesty International come take a look at this thing.”
What is "Recreate 68"?

What is being planned for the 2008 Democratic National Convention?

Why does the city of Denver feel the need to construct such an elaborate, high-security temporary prison?

sammyg2 08-15-2008 06:29 PM

Because every democrat convention is bound to attract lowlife idiots just like a moth to a candle.

legion 08-15-2008 06:37 PM

And protests are allowed at the convention--in designated areas out of sight and earshot of conventions attendees.

Why is it that the so-called party of inclusion doesn't want to see or hear from some of its members?

john70t 08-15-2008 06:56 PM

The Democrat party, and only the Democrat party, was playing cowboy back then, and the constituents didn't like it. Probably because they were being sent to hump rice paddys while Dick Cheneys and George Bushs were busy judging humidors.

"Democrats", however, seem to be more willing to use the constitutional freedom of speech to publically criticize their elected officials when they do very stupid things..........

I'm just outside of Denver right now, big thing here right now is there plan to hide the homeless. Funny that the party who claims to be for the homeless rights, creates BS rules stating the homeless can list city parks has an address so they can vote (paid for by the DNC with cigs) are hiding them.

Another is "Tent State". Say it has nothing to do w/ Kent State, just a coincidence but no-one believes them.

Protesters are saying it's pointless to protest the Republican Convention as they aren't going to listen to them anyway, but they might have some sway with the Dems.

There are several groups 'licensed to protest', others that are not licensed. There will undoubtedly be many others that just show up.

Could be OK. Could be nasty.

Question: How many who post here were alive during the '68 Democrat convention in Chicago? These bozos want a repeat? Damn, do I ever feel sorry for Denver...

rouxroux 08-15-2008 10:08 PM

Please, oh please, will CBS PLEASE bring back Dan Rather for one last shining moment in the sun? Maybe they could have him interview Teddy boy live while they run the "love fest, win one for the gipper" film? Hoping for some good action on the floor, but it will probably be well-scripted and choreographed.;)

Yes, I DO remember '68 and we were still watching it on our Zenith B&W console with a Channel Master antenna!

bivenator 08-15-2008 10:15 PM

I think out of control protests (riots) will give the dems a black eye and would probably scare on the fence voters away from the leftist Obama. Not sure why they would jeopardize the annoinment.

dd74 08-16-2008 12:11 AM

"Recreate 68" might have something to do with Bobby Kennedy who ran on the Dem ticket in '68. I don't know. It wasn't clear to me what "Recreate '68" is.

I doubt there will be riots, though. What will the rioters riot about? Hillary?

Americans today don't even know how to - or care enough to - riot over American politics? The Gore-Bush election in 2000 was the perfect opportunity for a riot, and it never happened.

And the ONLY reason these ant-American democrats have the right to protest is because brave men and women went to war (that these people protest against) and fought for the rights that these people abuse and take for granted. Biting the hand that feeds them.

varmint 08-16-2008 07:59 AM

back in 2000 they had the convention in los angeles. i went down to the protests, mostly to see the rage against the machine concert. little black clad anarchists were running around the old jewish diamond district throwing rocks through windows.

i made a few kristallnacht jokes, and no one got the reference.

hope the hippie *****es try something. and we get to watch some of the new non-lethal sonic weapons get deployed. then, when they're down, unleash the german shepards.

It ain't over till it's over... Hillary has not yet conceded, and Obama has had a rough few weeks since everyone thought she "conceded".

I posted this several posts above yours.

Oh, yea, "Rage Against The Machine" will be here (Denver), too.

Clicked on the link. It warms my heart to see the 1st amendment being used so constructively.
