The French

I don't know how big their presence is there but I heard on the news yesterday that 10 French soldiers were killed in a Taliban ambush in Afgahnistan. With all the insults and accustations of cowardace tossed at them on this board I just thought I'd mention it.

Sarkozy was a good pick for the French. The wimpy socialist before was a big failure.

RPKESQ 08-20-2008 09:45 AM

I agree completely. If successful, Sarkozy will make several needed reforms.

Does he have a plan to grow gonads?

I would guess the French Soldiers are as good as any and it is too bad they got killed. I hope it psses the French off. Make them more aggressive if they need it.

Mule - Helping the US by sending gound troops to Afganistan and losing 10 soldier in a single ambush isn't enough gonads for you!?

Sad - Your comment has the mocking tone that the right accuses liberals of making over US combat deaths - you going liberal on us Mule? ;)

The French make great Bread and Onion Soup....

I have never had a problem with the French soldiers. They are fighting and putting their lives at risk and should be admired for their courage.

I have a problem with the French government, their policies, and the general attitude of the French culture. I'm sure many of them think the same thing about the US.

Since I am a pilot, I can't address the caliber of the current French soldier (which I no doubt imagine is extremely professional and capable).

But their pilots? Welcome aboard. I have flown in a Gazelle with an absolute wild man. I still have the silver ashtray he gave me for trying to kill me:cool:

svandamme 08-20-2008 11:17 AM

word in the news now is that it's a major blue on blue mishap

not yet mentioned what nato plane presumably dropped the bombs

Show some respect here boys. There are guys dying out there fighting a war. I don't care what country they are from, they have more balls than some of you sitting here typing. Oh did I mention they were dying?

I have never experience any French person treating me badly because I am an American. But American culture, media and values are highly admired by many of French. Also it should be noted that what France expresses as an opinion and what they actually do is often 180 degrees apart. For example, right after 9/11 the French on their own set up a intelligence clearing house between the European powers and America regarding all terroism data. This was seldom made public but continues today.

They are likely speechless at how much you suck up to them to make a remark.
