Of those congressmen who voted, 81 democrats from the house and 29 democrat senators voted in favor of invading iraq. More democrat senators voted in favor of invading than voted against it. 29 to 21 in favor. Yep, the majority of democrat senators voted in favor of the invasion and war. funny how the democrats all pretend like it was all Bush's idea now, even though they voted for it back then. IMO People who do that are dishonest and immoral to say the least. |

so what will you do or have the US do about this situation in Saudi Arabia? |

Algeria is closer to being westernized than Saudi Arabia, having had the French influence for many years. Saudi Arabia is a totally closed society that has many contrary views to the western way of life. Reform has to come from within. It would be like a bunch of atheists telling the Pope he has to start making women priests, or Hindus telling Mormons they have to start drinking beer and coffee. How can a bunch of infidels tell the muslims "stop owning your women"? However, I think it's only a matter of time before the patriarchal grip that male muslims have on the women ends. |
While we abhor such treatment, there is nothing e can do about it overseas. But there are a few fellows out in Utah doing time for the same crime. At least i think it is Utah. Point is we cannot do a thing about it overseas. We should continue to shut down such practices here at home thus gaining a higher moral position. But we are powerless to influence this practice overseas unless and until we are willing to say"keep your oil until such time that you stop this abuse of your daughters".

but is this just another chance for some to beat their chests and cry foul and make snide remarks :) |
I guess no one has the right to point out abhorent behavior unless they personally have the power or authority to do something about it. That certainly narrows the field of conversation a bit, now doesn't it?

certainly bring it up, but comments like byron's, varmint's and matt's are just snide remarks and bascially personal attacks comments like seahawk's provide opportunity that we can all support to drive change and that's where the initial post succeeds |
No problem. It's not like any of your past remarks would have anybody thinking you were just taking a gratuitous shot at the USA.

Who gives a crap about Bush, Iraq and who done what. The fact is this an 8 year old girl for f...k's sake. I'm sure no one here would condone this type of sh$t no matter where it happens, but it predominantly happens in Arab nations. We're infidels yet they can screw kids.

Sounds like the other girl already got her divorce. I expect that there is hope for this child.
