My Trek to the Glen

Some of you saw last week that I was driving my MGA on an 1800 mile round-trip to the Glen for the Zippo (earlier thread can be seen at http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=428480). I returned safely and with no technical difficulties after a 15 hour stint yesterday. Didn't want to hijack other Zippo threads, so here are a few of my own photos. I will post some track action photos after these.

Check out the fog that rolled in and quickly stopped qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks for the photos, some good ones for sure. Did you have a good time?

PS, typ550, I think the response to your post was disappointing. It seems that lately the car guys are silent or not here anymore..

Yes, I had a great time! Even my wife, who does not "do" car stuff, said she enjoyed it. A great weekend and sorry it took me so long to finally attend.

Sorry I did not have a chance to meet up with you. The Spyder was Chuck Beck's and he also brought up one of his 904 replicas. They were parked diagonally across from us at the BARC tent, where you snapped several pics of the MGAs.

Badass, thanks for posting.

I have a lingering MG project in the garage that keeps getting pushed aside. Too bad I missed you passing through, MGA's are high on my list.

Chris, you're my hero for driving 1800 miles in an MG. The Iron Bottom guys have nothing on you. :D

I was bummed out that I couldn't make it. Hope to see you sometime .

i saw the 904. those MGAs were cool. lots of cool stuff at this event...though i was sad that the italians were so under represented. ill never miss this event again. in fact, im gonna spend most of my weekends at watkins glen next summer. 36 years in NY and this summer was the first time i had been there  ill meet up with you next year if you come up. bravo to you for driving up all that ways. awsome!

If you look at the Glen's schedule, it seems as if they have a good event just about every weekend in June. I spent a couple summers in college in the area, and it's a beautiful place for those months. The cold winters are certainly far off in the mind. Even the Corning glass museum (see your first photo) is pretty neat and worth a visit.

Hey Jim, yeah sorry you couldn't make it over. Hope to make it up again next year (maybe with the Jag), so we'll try it then.

I could not have made this drive in the MGA if I had not installed a 5-speed. Still, that 15 hour run home was LONG and HOT.

Jim Garfield 09-11-2008 05:10 PM

I'd love to see (and get a ride in :D) the C Type. My favorite Jag.
