Snubbed by a 944 guy

Oh my gawd, I will always strike up a conversation whenever I see someone driving an old porsche. So I pull into the gas station last night, and behind me pulls in a decent looking eggplant colored 84 944. Fuchs 7&8's. So I walk over and compliment his car, and told him that I loved the old 944's, and the guy rolls his nose up at me. Have you ever got the feeling that someone feels that they are superior to you???. This guy was a pretensious little snob. I was dirty from a 12 hour work day at the shop, and I guess I dont look the part of your typical Porsche guy. Kind of gave me a little chuckle though. If karma has its way, I'll bet that car ends up in my shop in the next couple of months. People are funny. This was the first Porsche owner I have ran across with that snobby attitude. Oh well, Thats what makes the world go around I guess.

I think it is typical of 944 drivers and I try my best to uphold my end of the bargain. JK :)

You never know who you are talking to so it is always best to be polite.

Speedy:)

He might have been having a bad day. Maybe he just found out that his fiance was a meth addict.

I met my husband in an auto parts store (seriously, I could not make this up...) He had just gotten off a 12 hour graveyard shift doing maintenance work on hysters. He was pretty ragged looking...

He flirted and asked me out. I completely blew him off. I mean seriously, like I would actually go out with HIM...

Well needless to say, the second time I ran into him, he made a much better impression! Been 18 years now - I suspect the next 18 will be even more fun!

So here's to you making a much better second impression and the 944 guy (like me) eating a slice of humble pie when you meet again!

Payback for 944 owners, over years of oppression and disrespect by 911 owners.;)

Guess you never met a typical Boxster owner?? (no disrespect to the boxster drivers on here...)

scottmandue 09-26-2008 09:35 AM

Maybe he thought you were hitting on him?

IMO, it's quite possible that your use of the word "old" is what caused the reaction.

Anybody should be able to accept a compliment on his/her car without that kind of hypersensitivity, however.

That's the biggest reason I let my PCA membership expire...

targa911S 09-26-2008 10:37 AM

Just tell him you will never have to replace a water pump!

widgeon13 09-26-2008 01:41 PM

If he's the first snob Porsche owner you've met it sounds like you haven't been to many PCA meetings back in the New England area. I've met some great people at PCA events but the concours (wash and cover people are probably the worst) people are different from the club race people and they are all different from the rally folks. There are enough shltheads to go around!

next time:

get out of your car & stand erect while facing his

slowly pull off off your string-backed leather driving gloves

stride up to him & slap him hard across the face with both gloves -- I am talking Lan Shou kung-fu HARD here!

Then speak the following in a stern voice:

"You have offended the [Porsche] family
and you have disgraced the [sports car] temple."

I challenge you to a duel.

Turn and walk off.

mattdavis11 09-26-2008 02:24 PM

The 944 owners tend to be that way. How would you feel as an owner of the car that kept the entire company from going tits up, and as a prize, was taken out of production? The only redeeming aspect was the air cooled engine getting shelved.

Heel n Toe 09-26-2008 02:37 PM

And for the next time you see someone at the pump with a 924, walk over and say...

"How long have you had your Audi GT?" :D

LOL: That line may become the 'go to' comeback for the next few weeks...:D

May of been his girls car or Nascar/Ford fan?

DasBoot 09-26-2008 04:33 PM

First mistake...acknowledging a 944 owner.

Did it have a 924 Turbo hood? If so, rest assured in the fact that the transmission is all f'ed up and I drove it through a toll booth without paying once. :D
