Paper or Plastic

Its gona cost you...yes you in CA $0.25 a bag... and Arnolddd is signing off on it... gona be legislated next year...

VINMAN 12-02-2008 05:54 AM

Good deal. (Not that I like any new laws/ taxes), But I'd like to see a move back to paper bags.

stomachmonkey 12-02-2008 06:04 AM

I prefer both, paper for the paper recyclables and plastic for scoopin the cat crap from the litter boxes.

IROC 12-02-2008 06:44 AM

We don't use either - the wife is into the re-usable bags.

What will you use to pick up dog poop?

Only when someone sees the deposit being made.

You don't need any bags at all...

Have them put all your purchases right back into your basket. In your car or trunk have several boxes ready. As you unload from the basket to the boxes put things together that will end up in the same location. Chilled items, cupboard items, paper supplies, etc. Things are then easily transported from your car to the proper place in the house.

Reusable grocery bags are also pretty nice. I'm not trying to be 'green', I just hate dealing with the leftover stack of paper bags or giant ball of plastic bags.

Get a couple of cats and a dog. I have 4 cats and had a Mastiff (RIP). You'll find a use for them.

Here's a fun one involving cats and the bag. Let them play with one, the will get their heads thru the "handle". Watch them tear around the house trying to get away from it.

For those with large dogs here's a poop scoop tip.

Take a handle, put over tail, when dog squats reach in and pull other handle to abdomen of dog. They crap right into the bag.

We use reusable bags. The big canvas ones work best. Costo has some huge green ones that work well also.

Tip-When you first make the move to reusable bags, you will forget them at home, get to the store and say 'Damn it!' So store them in the trunk of your car. Put them right back in the car when you are done unloading.

The cat head in the plastic bag is good for some laughs. My wife thought differently. No sense of humor I guess.

legion 12-02-2008 08:35 AM

Which is the party that legislates morality again?

legion 12-02-2008 08:40 AM

Oh and...

Is paper really "greener" than plastic?

Plastic can be recycled and reused. Paper cuts down trees. In the dog poop example above: what are people going to use instead of plastic grocery bag? They will just go out and buy a roll of prepackaged plastic bags.

VINMAN 12-02-2008 08:54 AM

To me its not so much being green. It's more of a trash thing. As much as I'm a "Right-wing nut job." Im a tree hugger when it comes to the outdoors and it getting trashed. Between all the plastic bags and water bottles I see all over the place, it drives me nuts. Nobody recycles this crap. What, maybe 25% of the population?

Mine didnt find the "wife head in the plastic bag" funny either.

What a kill joy she is!:D

legion 12-02-2008 08:59 AM

My cat is too smart for his own good.

If you try to put his head through a plastic bag, he just reaches back with his paw and removes it in one smooth motion.

Yeah, remember when styrofoam coffee cups were all the rage, "Save Trees". Then we figured out that manufacturing styrofoam took way more natural resources and the stuff does not degrade.

HardDrive 12-02-2008 09:27 AM

Use a biodegradable pet poop bag.

http://www.biobagusa.com/biobag_dog.htm

There are a lot of them them out there.

Both paper and plastic are going to be charged a "FEE" according to the article.
