Gin of choice?

I don't really get into Vodka but I like a good Gin and tonic or a gin & gin martini. I usually buy Bombay... What other kinds of gin are good?

lally911 12-07-2008 03:14 PM

Tanqueray and Bombay are the two I like.

Back in the day (40 years or so ago) it was Gilbey's and Gordon's for me. I'm guessing that that was pretty low-end stuff. But then, I was pretty low-end as well!

Cheers,

Tom

Bombay is nice.

Actually, tonight I am trying Iceberg gin, they make my favourite vodka so I figure I would try their gin. So far I am not disappointed.

I am gonna have to make a Gimlet :) Haven't had one of those for a while.

Try Hendrick's, especially good with a cucumber and tonic

While it's non-traditional, I really like Tanqueray's Rangpur. Very light and refreshing with tonic.

Depends on my mood but Bombay, Hendrick's and Bluecoat top the list.

Same here.

It's weird. If I just have one Gin & Tonic, I think Bombay tastes better.

If I'm going to be drinking them all night, I'm pretty much hangover proof if I stick to Tanqueray.

And I don't "get" Vodka. It's straight booze with no flavor.

rouxroux 12-07-2008 04:17 PM

You might laugh, but I like Oso Negro (blue, not the red)...

I think Broker's, Tanqueray, and Bombay are all good. I was surprised at Rangpur. I thought it would be nasty, but was surpisingly tasty with some tonic.

+1 My bottle resides next to some Bombay Saphire which has been neglected since the arrival of the hendricks. I'm hardly a connoiseur but I think it's good stuff.

You can tell it's winter with all the booze threads. :)

Isn't that with Vodak?

Anyway, Hendricks when I am feeling spendy, Seagrams or Gilbeys when I'm feeling cheap.

(yes, that does say vodak)

UconnTim97 12-07-2008 05:17 PM

I like Bombay Saphire and Tanqueray 10. There is a local gin, Blue Coat that is pretty good as well.

MT930 12-07-2008 05:54 PM

Bombay Saphire

For swilling down Gin & Tonic...the Beefman...

woodman 12-07-2008 07:21 PM

Plymouth, hands down. Haven't tried "Navy Strength" but will if I find some.

Yes it's very floral (too much so for some Kapt's) but it's my favorite. Not sweet and syrupy like some (Rangpur)

daepp 12-07-2008 08:29 PM

Used to be Bombay Saphire - now, well......

Bill Douglas 12-07-2008 08:43 PM

Bombay Saphire, but I'll have to try Hendricks.

They serve that at my local pub, and everyone tells me it's great, I just haven't tried it yet.

I find Tanqueray to be too sweet. I always drink Sapphire, but not because I'm being cool (I've been drinking it for 15 years now?). I can spend all night drinking doubles of Sapphire and tonic, and never actually get "drunk".
