Absinthe of Choice
I've only had two Absenté and Lucid.
Yes, I know, Absenté is not a "real" absinthe, but I do think it tastes better than Lucid. (I wanted to start one of these threads too. SmileWavy) |
Trul.
Its not as refined as it could be, but its a pretty good absinthe for the money. First time I had it I may have overdone it a bit, the walls turned into legos and the couch turned into a giant mushroom. |
i thought that stuff was illegal here in the usa.
|
Nope, been legal for just over a year now.

wormwood and all?

Yep, but the amount of thujone is limited in imports to the U.S..
|
I am still using Herbsaint when I make comfort foods (like Oysters Rockefella).
- guess I am just old-fashioned... |
Had the real stuff in Paris.
The color of the yellow headlights on French cars (till you pour the water over the sugar cube) With the Yougoslavian family that ran the first Hostal I stayed at in the Marais. The grandmother, the adults , the young'ns , me and the girl I was with - all of us sitting around the dining room table laughing our as-s off. That stuff gives a clean buzz like nothing else I have ever had (and I grew up in the 70's). |
I went to this place called Bar Marsella in Barcelona a few years ago.
http://en.momondo.com/blogs/momondo/archive/2007/11/23/go-absinthe-barcelona.aspx It was amazing, Picasso and Hemingway used to drink absinthe there. If ever in Barcelona, make sure to check it out! Not sure what the brand that they sold was, but it did the trick. |
Drank this stuff A LOT when i spent a few months in Eastern Europe. To really see any effect, you have to be a repeat user for years. Drinking it once won't make you see the green fairies...

Not sure what effect you are refering to. |

I ordered the real stuff from Europe. They will deliver to the States. Don't remember the name, but got the whole kit with sugar spoons, glasses, etc. Pretty interesting stuff. My bro-in-law thought he was gonna go blind.
|
At $97.00 a bottle it better come with a BJ!
|
Legion is right. Actually the amount of thujone is limited almost everywhere.
You would really have to drink a lot to get the hallucinogenic effect. |

Before I gave up drinking it was on my list of things to try...who knows I still might. At any rate, your thread title reminded me of my favorite song from Minus the Bear
Absinthe Party At The Fly Honey Warehouse Hey, let's cross the sea and get some culture. Red wine with every meal and absinthe after dinner. We'd look good side by side walking back to the hotel We've got to get something to eat and to drink yeah, and find a place to stay that's not far off the main way- we've got to plan our day: Rodin and D'Orsay and find a way to cram it all in before we drink hard again Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight 'This light looks good on you,' morning came early. Sitting on a park bench that's older than my country Two star hotel near St. Germain. Two star hotel where the stars don't mean anything. |
Don't waste your money on the stuff that comes with the strainer unless you are guaranteed that bj.
I tried that (someone else bought the bottle) and it wasn't even close. Wrong color, wrong taste, wrong buzz. Better off buying some Ricarde or Pastis ( both are excellent tasting substitutes). The stuff I had came from Spain . Also I believe you can still get it in north western Switz, in the area where the original "factories" were. |

The place I stayed was a "two star", but on the Right Bank Rue des Ecouffes. Not luxurious but along with the Absinthe I also was intrtoduced to feelings only an ex pat American poet girl and her Danish girlfriend could provide - and though that ( also not the real thing ) can be bought , it can't be bottled. |
