Lotus Europa?? Anyone Have One?

I almost bought one years ago. Sale fell through (it was a repo and the guy could not get me an ownership). I got a 911 instead. (That was several cars ago).

What did I miss out on?

Crappy engineering, ugly, Lucas electronics, Bad panel fit, the list goes on and on.
Thank your lucky stars you bought the Porsche

Lucas electronics, Lotus build quality and a Renault engine.... what's not to love?!

I really like them A LOT. They certainly are "different" looking, but not ugly in my books. Far prettier in person than they look in pictures. I'm interested to hear from people who've owned them!

Lucas electronics

Oh, and just in case no one else mentions it... Lucas electronics

I drove a friends one afternoon long ago.

It was cramped, and the visibility awful. Like driving a submarine.

It looked exotic as hell in black and gold "John Player" livery. It was definitely a chick magnet in those days.

I had a Plymouth Satellite Hemi at the time, so was not impressed with the performance of the Europa.

Oh yes, they're hellish to work on.

And then there's the Lucas electronics.

Okay - wait a minute... Isn't Notfarnow the "regretta-jetta" guy? You know, the infamous car that caught itself on fire TWICE? Oh, and let us not forget catching the sailboat on fire. While it was in the driveway... :p

If Notfarnow likes the Lotus, you better think twice- or at least get a really good fire extinguisher! LOL!

Go find an old rusty piece of rebar, about 3-4 feet long. Pound it into your lawn, until about 3 feet of it is left sticking straight up. Then fall on it - just below the rib cage should do. It will be over quicker, and will be less painful.

If you're ever in this situation again, call me - I can probably get it sorted out for you.

Sounds like I was lucky I didn't get it.

A legal race car for the street. It can out handle anything back in the 70, and many "Sportscars" these day.

I have a production Lotus Europa and a prototype Lotus 52 that has a twincam engine in a Lotus 47 style body.

I would probably sell my Porsche before selling the Lotuses.

My Porsche is just to the right of my Lotus 52. The other Lotus is in the garage.

Porsche_monkey 12-18-2008 07:03 AM

The car I looked at had the twin cam. sigh.

Looks similar to a regular Europa, but seems to have a longer flying buttress. Is that the case?
