EF'ing drunk drivers!

Daughter and her Husband of one of our neighbors were killed last night by a drunk driver. The DD was doing 80-85 mph in a 45 zone, ran a redlight and t-boned their car.

They are devestated.

widgeon13 12-26-2008 02:53 PM

I have no sympathy for the DD and unfortunately, the family will never recover from this act of stupidity.

126coupe 12-26-2008 02:55 PM

That is just awful, I try to make it a point to stay off the roads on holiday nights.
I will pray for your neighbor :(

Oh Haha 12-26-2008 03:22 PM

I hate to hear these stories.

Thoughts and good wishes for the neighbors. I can't imagine what they must be going through.:(

BGCarrera32 12-26-2008 03:59 PM

My sincerest condolences to that family.

Things BGCarrera32 hates:

1) Drunk drivers
2) People who make jokes about driving drunk and drunk driving innuendo

Hope the driver gets upped to Felony 1 and goes straight to prison.

I just finished reading the story before logging onto Pelican. The location is nearby. Hwy 6 is dangerous without having a speeding drunk on the road. My condolences red.

126coupe 12-26-2008 04:29 PM

Why is it the "murderer" is always just injured?

speeder 12-26-2008 04:40 PM

Terrible tragedy. Sounds like the DD could do serious time in a Texas prison from that article, though. Small consolation, but better than nothing. On X-mas, of all things. This will ruin that family's holidays forever. :(

red-beard 12-26-2008 04:54 PM

Yeah, 6am phone call from the medical examiner.

GothingNC 12-26-2008 05:15 PM

Sorry to hear the news:(

Seems like DD incidents are going up with the economic meltdown.

Father and his young son was killed in a wreck down the road from me a few months ago. Girl who was drunk crossed the median and hit head one. It was her third DD wreck and was driving with a revoked license, no insurance or registration:mad:

I have zero tolerace for others who choose to drive after having a "few" drinks, the risk of harming others is too high.

Murderer is correct and there is no need for quotes.

So sad.

Noah930 12-26-2008 10:40 PM

Sorry to hear of the tragedy.

I don't understand why we (as a society) tolerate this type of behavior. But in the end, our laws and lackadaisical enforcement of them reflect how we don't care enough about drunk driving to make a big deal about it.

Axeman 12-26-2008 10:52 PM

That's a terrible tragedy, my condolences go out to the family.

vash 12-26-2008 11:16 PM

that is terrible news..my heart aches for the family.

this sucks.

We recently had a mother and daughter mowed down in front of a grade school, she was walking her daughter to school. This was 9 am-ish, it's thought that the driver passed out at the wheel. The driver had TWELVE prior DUI convictions stretching over 20 years. Why they don't throw people in jail for this stuff, I have no idea.

GothingNC 12-27-2008 11:03 AM

A good friend of mine from Long Island just sent me an email this morning.

He is recoverying from being involved in a wreck with a DD last night:mad:

JavaBrewer 12-27-2008 11:15 AM

Well the good news is that here in SD the number of DD arrests have dropped. We stay home during the holidays primarily to avoid the risk of encountering a DD. I used to be a bartender and can guarantee that the roads are filled with drunk drivers.

Quote:

SAN DIEGO — California Highway Patrol officers had a harder time finding drunken drivers during this Christmas holiday, likely due to the rain that kept many people off the roads.

From 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Friday, officers nabbed 17 drivers for DUI in San Diego County, compared to 76 drivers during the same period last year.

The trend was similar statewide, with 409 arrests this year compared to 973 last year.

During the same reporting period, there have been 11 traffic fatalities in the state in areas covered by the CHP. None of them occurred in San Diego County.

The CHP's maximum DUI enforcement will continue through the weekend, ending Sunday at midnight.

red-beard 12-27-2008 11:25 AM

David, that is good news.

pwd72s 12-27-2008 12:05 PM

Hmmm, never thought of the benefits of storms...probably not many DD arrests in Portland during the long freeze...

peppy 12-27-2008 12:07 PM

I recall a State Trooper tell me that after 8 or 9 pm every 5th car you see, the driver is impaired.

I think that is the right numbers but could not find the info.

Sorry for your neighbors red.
