I have ridden in many Trabbis and have photo of myself driving one somewhere. I remember around 1991 some car dealers in western Germany were giving Trabbis away for free and couldn't get any takers. Now they're quite the novelty item, called Ostalgie , a play on the German word for nostalgia.

I probably wouldn't take much pride in building Trabants for a living either
 I wonder if Yugos will some day be nostalgic.. funny how some things (like Checker cabs) can be hot items these days, even though they were just work horses in the day.

FWIW- both sides are from near Dallass, so I suppose the inbreeding may be fairly recent... |
