Washington, DC is fun

Washington DC keeps sending my dad letters to attend jury duty, followed by nasti-grams threatening to arrest him if he continues to not show.

The problem is that he's not ignoring his civic duty... rather, he's dead. My stepmom has been informing them of this tidbit of information since 2002 with no real progress*. She's waiting for them to show up at her door to arrest him and she'll them "He can be found at Arlington National Cemetary... Section whatever, Plot 61, second from the tree. Hopefully, the guards with the big guns won't mind you going after him." If this happens, I genuinely hope that I can be there to witness it.

BB.

* I have recently found out that while her efforts to inform DC of his status has not resulted in them acknowledging the fact that he's dead, there seems to be some evidence to support the idea that they think that while he's alive, she is now deceased. I'm not making this up.

If he died in Chicago, he could still vote!

We need to trust our government and its infinite widsom, efficiency, and genuine care for its people.

Kinda funny.

My dad passed a couple of years ago.

There were a couple of financial issues that became "sticky"

One of his creditors would call looking for payment,

They'd call and ask for him, I'd say "he died, how can I help you?"

"oh yes, i see that in the system, we are looking for this months payment, can you do a check by phone?"

"yes but I won't"

"well if it's not here by such and such a date it will reflect on his credit"

"that's the least of his problems, he's dead"

"we'll it won't look good'

"he won't care, he's dead"

"so when will the payment get here?"

"when i feel like it, anything else?"

"no, just a reminder that in x days we will report the delinquency"

Obvious they are reading a script and are not capable of independent thought.

SM, that's funny. One of the many fringe benefits of dying is that bill collectors lose a lot of leverage.
