The beauty of the days gone by...

Van - what a guy! He'll be 70 soon.

When I recall just how it felt, When I went walking down by the lake
My soul was free, my heart awake, When I walked down into the town

The mountain air was fresh and clear, The sun was up behind the hill
It felt so good to be alive, On that morning in spring

I want to sing this song for you, I want to lift your spirits high
And in my soul I want to feel, The beauty of the days gone by

The beauty of the days gone by, It brings a longing to my soul
To contemplate my own true self, And keep me young as I grow old

The beauty of the days gone by, The music that we used to play
So lift your glass and raise it high, To the beauty of the days gone by

I'll sing it from the mountain top, Down to the valley down below
Because my cup does overflow, With the beauty of the days gone by

The mountain glen Where we used to roam, The gardens there By the railroad track
Oh my memory it does not lack, Of the beauty of the days gone by

The beauty of the days gone by It brings a longing to my soul
To contemplate my own true self And keep me young as I grow old

And keep me young as I grow old And keep me young as I grow old - Van

Nothing starts your day off right like throwing on a little Van in the morning,

...and letting him play all day long!. One of my cd players has the Van portion of my cd collection (probably 35+) and sometimes I hit the "VM group" and just let him go . I've got so much dang music that I've collected over the years that I sometimes forget about the jewels that are hiding away in there...thanks!

And the caravan is on its way
I can hear the merry gypsies play
Mama mama look at emma rose
Shes a-playin with the radio
La, la, la, la...

And the caravan has all my friends
It will stay with me until the end
Gypsy robin, sweet emma rose
Tell me everything I need to know
La, la, la...

Turn up your radio and let me hear the song
Switch on your electric light
Then we can get down to what is really wrong
I long to hold you tight so I can feel you
Sweet lady of the night I shall reveal you

Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher radio
Turn it up, turn it up, so you know, radio
La, la, la, la...

And the caravan is painted red and white
That means evrybodys staying overnight
Barefoot gypsy player round the campfire sing and play
And a woman tells us of her ways
La, la, la, la...

Turn up your radio and let me hear the song
Switch on your electric light
Then we can get down to what is really wrong
I long to hold you tight so I can feel you
Sweet lady of the night I shall reveal you
Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher, radio
Turn it up, thats enough, so you know its got soul
Radio, radio turn it up, hum
La, la, la, la...

Van Morrison is awesome. I love the album Moondance.

One of my favorites, "Into the Mystic"

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I dont have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I dont have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on girl...

What a poet. How many artists are still creating at this level at this age?

You beat me to it. When I first heard that, I think in high school, I had to have that song. I used some of his music at my wedding.
