Telamarketing

how do you guys deal with those annoying phone calls from the telamarketing people for what ever it is they try to flog, on the land line I just put the phone down and come back a 1/2 hour later and hang up, one person was still giving me the spiel after 20 minutes, why don't they get real jobs like a bill collector now thats something your mom can be proud of

If its a dude I just hang up. If its a chick I try to talk dirty to her.

m21sniper 03-20-2009 12:42 PM

I ask them to hold on, i put the phone down, and just continue what i'm doing.

When i hear the blaring tone from the phone indicating they hung up, i just do the same.

Ohhh, you're a Canadian, eh? Sorry. ;)

Haven't gotten such a call in many years. I haven't had a landline since 2004.

That doesn't seem to mean anything these days. I never answer the phone, That's what answering machines and voice mail are for.

does not work against "war dialing"

these fu***kers ignore the law -- I'd like to get my hands on 'em

They keep calling my cell phone; your new car warranty is about to expire.

I have not bought a new car in 19 years, how do I get them to stop?

It's from a different number (area code diff too) each time.

You're Canadian eh? Try this http://www.crtc.gc.ca/ENG/dncl.htm

I put our number on this DNCL. Calls have dropped off. There are some exceptions to the rules however.

You can usually tell if it's a telmarketer by the ~1 second dead-air when you answer: I just hang up. An automated system dials the phone numbers so when you answer it detects this and connects you to a live person.
Or I let voice mail pick up. Or I simply tell them I'm not interested. Whatever mood I'm in. I've also asked them to hold while I put the phone down etc. as others have mentioned.

You've probably seen/heard this before, but if not, this is the best way to deal with telemarketers:

I get better than 5 every single day , some of them cannot be bloced with the do not call list. They annoy the living hell out of me , so I find creative ways to jack them off. For the last week, I have been jamming the blow gun at the shop in the reciever, and giving them an earful of 165 psi air. I had an old train air horn that I would give them occasionaly, and a good blast of the impact gun usually makes me fell a little better.
I will also ask them to hold, and just leave the phone sit. Usually , though, I just watch the caller ID, and do not answer calls from 800,866, or outside of our local area codes, but a few always seem to sneak by.

Hendog 03-20-2009 06:15 PM

Here in The Great White North, you can tell them to remove your name from their calling list. Once you've done that, they must abide to it by law.

I make sure there is a nice juicy porno in the player keyed to a very "high energy" scene. I'll feign interest in what they have to sell then ask them if they could hold for just a minute while I finish up my business with the babysitter, lay phone down in front of speakers and hit "Play" on the dvd player.

nynor 03-20-2009 06:50 PM

i only have a cell phone, so i get very few. those that do call, i explain they've reached me on my cell phone and i am not happy about it. then i ask for their supervisor and explain to them that i want my number removed, i am adding them to my log (which is a lie, i am too lazy to do that), remind them of the penalties involved if they call again, then i say goodbye and hang up. i can't remember the last call i received from a telemarketer, its been that long.

Tell them your slave is giving you a BJ and you want them to talk dirty to you.

Someone's trying to sell you an extended warranty on your zebra-striped Geo Tracker and you're saying no to them? I don't know who's crazier.
:p

The local diesel mechaninc says that if you yell enough dirty words in that phone they will stop calling you. My fav was the calls I got on my cell warning me about something being due on my loan. WTF the only money I owe is to my father and that aint much.

Tidybuoy 03-20-2009 11:43 PM

I like to act like a really old fart.

"HANG ON, I'VE GOT TO GET MY GLASSES"

"NOW, WHO DID YOU WANT TO TALK TO"?

"WHAT? YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO SPEAK UP...I CAN BARELY HEAR YOU"

"WHAT??"

"I SAID YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP"

"HONEY....CAN YOU TAKE THIS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT"

"NO IT'S NOT FOR YOU - I JUST CANT HEAR THEM"

"THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID"

click....

"THEY HUNG UP" hehehehe
