FDA recommends vicodin and percocet off the market

Not only that, but any narcotic with acetaminophen in it. Seems like if it is that big a deal, they should just ban tylenol completely.

I guess someone must've just informed Obama that there are some profitable pharmaceutical companies still out there. Obviously this cannot be tolerated. He must destroy them utterly. Only failed, inefficient, broken companies are allowed to exist under the new "Hope and Change" American system.

Besides, without easy, simple, inexpensive medications like these, there won't be any opportunity for the new Government Health Care system to invent new ones that cost the taxpayers about 100X as much per pill.

More "hope and change". You can bet on it.

SHUCKS! what will I take with my BEER!?

I hope that whatever they will let us take can do the job. I spent a few weeks recovering from crushing T-10 to 1/2 of it's height by sucking down beers and chewing Vicodins!

Not to worry, your government protecting you. But seriously it's in a lot of OTC and sports creams and you can get too much.

i think removing it is not the best course of action...

but people tend to take a lot of vic's or perc's even though they are intaking a bunch of acetaminophen....presumably this thing targets vicodin and perc's and not tylenol because nobody takes pure tylenol for fun..

I've gotten seriously f'ed up and sick from tylenol O.D.'s a few times in my youth. (trying to quell tooth aches)

The one time i think i was as close to death as i've ever been. That being said a ban seems quite stupid to me.

As I understand it, vicodin and percocet are combo drugs: a narcotic plus acetominophen. The problem is that too much acetominophen can cause liver failure. So, I suppose we can simply take the narcotic separately from the acetominophen. Not as convenient but less chance of liver damage. I don't see why it should be expensive. Narcotics have been around forever and many of them are generic.

Expanding the War on Drugs to include these vile, evil, addictive substances that clearly have no medical benefit makes perfect sense given today's economic situation. We absolutely should be spending more money and resources on such noble and successful law enforcement efforts.

Obviously they are combo drugs, but this will have an effect not mentioned in htis thread or the article. The way the rulebook is written, if they are a combo, they are class III, if not a combo, they are class II, which are much more closely controlled. One step down from heroin, rather than two.

I always write for norco 10/325, rather than vicodin(5mg/325 mg tylenol) or vicodin ES(7.5/750) myself.

Personally I think they should pull Tylenol from all combo drugs. I've seen a few tragic accidents with unintentional Tylenol ODs. If you want to add Tylenol to a narcotic (which works well), simply take a second pill.

There are a lot of OTC meds that contain acetaminophen. If you are taking two or three of those then add a Vicodin or two, you could get yourself into trouble pretty quickly.

Does acetominophin even work for anyone?

I've gotten bad headaches since early childhood. Doctors recommended to my parents children's tylenol. Never worked. Finally one day they gave me an advil. It worked. I never looked back. Ibuprofen FTW!

That's a rough corner for the doctors to be in.

I've cut back my Tylenol use, and tried to switch over to aspirin or Advil more often, for this very reason. My dad has liver damage from years of popping Tylenol and Excedrin for migranes.

For the docs, how much is too much.

Is taking 1-5/500 vicodin daily an issue as far as liver damage is concerned?

You know, Tylenol has never worked for me, but I cannot understand the attraction of narcotics. Being addicted to morphine is like being addicted to a headache and an upset stomach. It has its purpose and I am greatful for the relief it provided, but I cannot fathom taking narcotics for their side effects. Combining them with a substance that doesn't work (for me), well that is a ban that won't bother me.

But people who suffer from chronic pain, if what they respond to is one of those combo drugs, can they really be replicated by simply taking a narcotic and a Tylenol?
