Going camping...

for the weekend. After all the recent threads about "paycuts", "Oakland tradgedies", and who knows what else.... I am checking out for a couple of days off. Headed off for some deserved R&R. (albeit only two days)

I've got spot number lucky "13" reserved for the weekend with a late check out of Monday even though we are leaving Sunday. :(
The weather is supposed to be fantastic. (74*F) Beach walks, books, campfires, and spending a great weekend with the two women I love the most comin up!
See you all on the return.

You bringing the fishing pole?

I am jealous. I am getting my camper out of winter hibernation mode here pretty soon, although at 9,000 feet where our favorite "camping" spot is, there is still too much snow.

Enjoy, definately good to get away from the TV/computer and civilization.

My next ride is to be up at Independence Pass during a metor shower.

I've been asking how to take pics at night of them shooting from the sky with my 911 in the pic.

otherwise I found a few older well experienced guys out west that say that their MB van camper with big wheels and tires is better than ford, chrysler or gm. 20mpg at 75mph, rock steady and easy to drive long distances.

Dan how do you like the pop up camper thing? I used to love tent camping, but with the wife and daughter they will only stay some place that has a bathroom. Thought we might rent one for a weekend and see how we like it.

RoninLB 03-27-2009 12:41 PM

you can legally crap anywhere in any National Forest with a shovel and following guidelines at distances from rivers and streams. State parks and forests I stay away from. Buy them a pink shovel.

Not gonna happen Ron. They at least need an outhouse.

I live in a state park.:p

My wife still wants a camper.

911boost 03-27-2009 03:31 PM

I have a 1979 Mallard, 19 foot travel trailer. I got it cheap, everything works, and with wife and 2 kids and 2 dogs, it works just fine. As the kids get bigger I might need some more room, but I will worry abou that later.

We camp maybe 6 or 7 long weekends a year.

Camping + kids = a good time

However . . .

Our last camping trip ( and yes it was the LAST) was one from hell. It rained the entire time. We arrived at our site (in the rain) & as I was setting up, I realized that I had forgotten the tent poles. Since it was a 3 1/2 hr one-way drive to get them, we went to the local town & bought a new tent. We set it up (in the rain) & we put a large plastic tarp from tree to tree for a dry area.

That night, sitting around the old campfire (in the rain) a lawn chair collapsed. Then the propane lamp self-destructed. We gave up & hit the tent for sleep.

The next morning, it was still raining. We did get a rainy hike in. Then the wind picked up & our tarp was useless. Mid-afternoon, we gave in & packed all of the wet gear into & onto the car (in the rain). On the way out of the park we dumped all of the broken stuff & the old tent in the dumpster.

We have never camped again.

This is a good advertisement for a tent trailer, I think . . .

Ian

Yes, there are bath houses. I think there are 7 parks on the NC side of the lake, and some on the Va side.

Nice Jayco TT syncroid!

We have a Jayco 1207 also. Tent trailers are awsome.

How do you keep warm in one of those things?

BRPORSCHE 03-29-2009 03:37 PM

Me and the g/f decided to take advantage of this absolute amazing weather in Houston this past weekend and went to Huntsville State Park. I am an Eagle scout, and it was her first time 'camping.':D

I reccomend the party. It was very nice and clean.
