If I was looking for a comfortable daily driver but want something different and had money to burn, I would probably try and find a solid E30 BMW put an LS1 in it. The V8 weighs about the same as the BMW straight 6, but puts out >300HP stock. In a well balanced ~2700 lb car it would be a riot. With a little ingenuity, I bet you could even keep air conditioning.
