Know your supply line personnel... Disgruntled driver nearly screws up Fenway opener

They're out there people... Unfortunately in growing numbers...

Funny in some ways, sad in others (like that a grown adult would get so utterly petty with his employer - heck I'd gladly do his job these days). Can you imagine if his shipment wasn't ketchup for the Red Sox home opener but maybe dialysis equipment or baby formula or something? This guy sounds like he needs to never be put in a position of responsibility greater than his own miserable arse ever again...

Still, it would have been kind of funny to see Fenway employees making panic runs to all the local supermarkets before Monday...

PD: Ketchup Heading For Sox Opener Stolen
Man Accused Of Stashing $43,000 Ketchup Shipment

POSTED: 5:07 pm EDT April 10, 2009
UPDATED: 3:28 pm EDT April 11, 2009

BOSTON -- The heavy rains that pushed back Monday’s Red Sox home opener may have actually been a blessing in disguise for fans looking forward to a Fenway Frank with all the fixings.

A $43,000 shipment of ketchup scheduled to arrive at Fenway Park Monday morning went missing after a disgruntled truck driver stashed the cargo at a Tennessee truck stop, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office
The driver, Christopher G. Kindle, 39, of Jackson Center, Ohio, was scheduled to transport a load of 996 Heinz Ketchup bottles to a facility in Norton, Mass., by Friday. But the cargo of condiments hadn’t turned up on Monday morning and officials at Fenway began to get worried.

"On Monday I got an e-mail asking where the load was at, and that it was important," said Crosby Trucking Services manager Kevin Mitchell. "That's when I was told the ketchup was for the Red Sox home opener."

Mitchell called police to report that the load -- and the driver -- had gone missing. Police said they checked Kindle’s criminal history and learned that he was on probation for an earlier incident. Kindle’s parole officer then helped police to locate and arrest him.

“It’s silly,” said Lt. Jim Frye of the sheriff’s office. “This could’ve been a civil issue, but now we’re looking at the intention to deprive the owner of services, which is basic theft.”

In the meantime, Mitchell arranged to have an emergency ketchup shipment rushed to Fenway in time for Tuesday’s rescheduled game.

Frye said Kindle told police that he took the trailer because he was mad at the trucking company management about two prior incidents. Kindle said that he had dropped the missing trailer off at a location in Ohio, but when it couldn’t be found, Kindle was questioned again and he admitted to driving the trailer to a truck stop in Baxter, Tenn.

Haha! FWIW I like the NL rules about 1000X better than the AL rules but unfortunately I'm "stuck" being an AL guy since I'm a Red Sox fan. It was just kind an amusing story.

I bet those were pretty large "bottles" - more like the industrial-size condiment jugs. Just a guess though.

Or maybe they're just getting ripped off. Who knows?

What a let down. I was hoping to hear that someone figured out how to cancel baseball.
