State Budget Cutbacks

North Carolina has cut the budget for state agencies. The speech therapist that comes to my house for our son, can no longer travel. We can not go to her and she can not travel.

WTF, send her a$$ home.

jyl 04-14-2009 01:57 PM

Why can't you go to her?

She said we couldn't. I do not know why.

Thats odd, our sons speech therapist still stays in touch with us even after 16 years, this was through the special education department at the school. I would have to guess if she was not paid to travel she would have anyhow, most likely on her own dime.

Was the program eliminated? I know our staff here is getting tight.

When it comes time for states to tighten the belt, they always seem to do it on services that could have the most political potential, not the stuff that really needs cut.

It might be an insurance thing. Ask her if she can meet close to her home at a community center or something. If that works for her, you can probably locate a facility that has some privacy.

I am not too worried about my son, we have another speech therapist that he goes to, and I get a lot of work for him from the John Tracey Clinic.

I just thought it was odd, that they did not offer for us to come to them.

My son is not old enough for the school systems program yet.

This program was not eliminated.

They did eliminate a program in NC that paid for all of the hearing aids and an FM system, no matter what your income is.

The states won't cut Police or Firemans hours, or lay off some of them, NOOOOOOOOO, thats the holy grail of public service. There is so much waste in those agencies it would make us all cringe.

Sounds a lot like Oregon...dire straights, budget wise. Cutting services left and right. Of course, there is still plently in the budget to allow ILLEGAL aliens to obtain in state tuition at the state universities.

I kid you not...it's all over the news that our legislature wants to pass this...

(edit) Rick nailed it...they choose cuts politically, make the cuts that puts the most pressure on the taxpayers to cough up more.

I'll believe they're really trying to cut budgets when they stop offering medical in retirement to new employees. I don't think any of the Fortune 100 companies doing business in California offer it to new hires. Disney quit offering it 15 y/o. Why should the state be offering a benefit that most taxpayers won't even get? Oh! To compete with the private sector and attract and retain quality employees! Yeah, right.

Wow, my daughter lucked out getting the FM system for her hearing aids back in January,

strupgolf 04-14-2009 05:57 PM

That right Hugh R, I don't know why Gov't has to offer things private companies dont. It might be because they have no one to answer to. It's all someone else's money, not theirs. And why is it that companies have to pay out these huge bonuses to people to keep the best when the best have gotten them in the mess their in.

My son's speach threapist has never traveled. Like doctors, they don't make house calls. They work at the schools.

From what I have been told by UNC North Carolina is one of the few states that have a program like this.

That FM system takes some getting used to.

My son just turned 2, so he is in the early intervention program. The schools will pick him up when he turns 3.

Brilliant. lay off police and fire and then pay Overtime ($74 an hour in California) to maintain minimum staffing levels.

We all get it that you hate police and fire. And the pensions that we dont deserve.

I work so much at my "second job", I can't seem to find the time to clean my 4 car garage in the McMansion that I just built. Maybe you can come over and lend me a hand.

It's getting rough here too, I'm just waiting on them to cut my wife's travel, which is essential to her job(itinerant teacher). We're also waiting on the announcement of who's been cut here at my job.. we know there will be a few cut, we just don't know who yet.
