Swimmer's ear?

Need a little advice, guys.

I've had this strange "plugged up" feeling in my right ear over the past week or so. It's not constant but it feels like I have water in my ear that just won't come out.

I've Q-tipped as much as I can but it persists. I've been chewing gum as well, (I hate gum.) to see if it will help like when on an aeroplane.

Any new ideas?

Thanks,

When I used to aggressively water ski and fall (if you aren't falling occasionally, you aren't sking hard enough), I would get water in my ears.

There is a alcohol based bottle of liquid that is called just that, "Swimmer's Ear" that I would get at Walgreen's. Always worked for me.

If it isn't actually water ...remember, wax can build up. Some individuals produce more (wax) that others. You may need to see a physician and there are also ear drops to soften wax and assist in its removal.

aeroplane?

Try sleeping with that ear down.

Yeah, that was weird, wasn't it. I don't why I spelled it that way.

I'll give the sleep thing a shot tonight and see what happens. If no change, I'll try some OTC meds.

thanks.

Or, the off the wall method -- ear candling

Not saying it would work, just offering that up as the new age method ;)

I'm afraid those are bunk. My friend swore by them. He cut one open after use showed me the 'ear wax' ...magically pulled out by the candle.

I said, "Got any more?"

Why, yes.

We put one in a vice on the work bench, lit it up, let it burn down (about 1 1/2" left), cut it open ...hummm, SAME exact contents.

First time I had this was 2 years ago, neck nodes swelled up big time, could not close my jaw, lost
total hearing in my right ear (for a short time) and the pain was excruciating!

Finally went to an Ears/Nose/Throat Doc and had my ear canal flushed and took antibiotics for a week.

Was fine in 3 days, do not procrastinate Wayne, you could suffer from hearing loss (so I was told).

don't mess with this, airplane ride might be a bad idea right now too. If you can't equalize, you could pop something

+1, your regular doctor should fix you right up. He'll flush your ears out with warm water and you'll be good as new. It is probably wax build up. I just had mine done a few weeks ago. Went swimming, ear got clogged. I am one of those folks that 'makes' a lot of ear wax. Good luck.
And remember... never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow ;)
