Freaky

My cell phone rings at 9:20 p.m.. It's my next door neighbor. He's a cop.

Me: "Hello."

Him: "Are you home."

Me: "Yep."

Him: "Turn on you back porch light."

Me: "Okay."

I walk upstairs and flip on the back light.

Him: "He's gone now."

Me: "Wait...What!?"

Him: "The kids saw a guy in your back yard wearing a dark hoodie. I saw some movement but really couldn't see into your yard when I flipped on my back light. He probably got scared off."

Me: "Thanks. I'll keep an eye on things."

So of course I had to make sure the rest of the house and garage were clear. I never saw anything, but I'm on high alert tonight.

Skeet shooting! Sweeeet!

porsche4life 05-02-2009 09:09 PM

Load up the AR and step out the back porch? Got anything with a laser? Aim the dot on stuff all around your yard. If he is still around he wont stay I bet.

HardDrive 05-02-2009 09:18 PM

Red dot? Your thinkin' laser man.

EDIT: I've always thought of a 'red dot' as a open reticle scope(with a little red dot in the middle), but perhaps were mixing terms.......

porsche4life 05-02-2009 09:19 PM

thats what it says....

He's probably the guy who stole Turbo6bar's trailer ;) Everyone! after him.

I always think of Red Dot as what I put in 9mm and 12 gauge reloads. SmileWavy

Illinois case law is pretty clear. I only have the right to defend myself inside my own home and when my life is in danger--that is if I'm in a "friendly" jurisdiction. Residents of Chicago have no such right.

I also have to keep in mind that my cop neighbor is watching my back yard as well. If he sees a flashlight or laser dot he might chose to investigate himself, and he will not be unarmed.

Floodlights on motion sensors time

I highly reccomend the M16A1 APERS mine, better known as the "bouncing betty."

35 meter lethal radius, both trip and pressure fuzed.

Just keep your kids and pets out of there ...

LOL

...Or just teach them where the field starts!;)

That sucks about Illinois law. In SC, you're automatically allowed to presume they have the intent to harm you if it occurs at night and your back porch would qualify as part of your home.

Thats spooky man!

There is some private land I used to go turkey hunting at. the guy adjacent to my buddy had signs up all over the place that read, no trespassing violators will be shot.

KarlCarrera 05-03-2009 07:51 AM

That is un-nerving. Years ago I decided that the cost per KHW was low compared to the damage, hassels, and attorneys fees associated with a break in or attempted break in. I tried the motion sensors, but they didn't seem to give me the reliability that I wanted, and the foxes (squirrel control) kept setting them off. Now I just turn on the front and back lights at dark and off again in the morning. It can be a hassel but for about $3-4 per month it's worth it.

Good for your neighbor, take him some steaks. Good neighbors are invaluable. In our hood we all try to take care of one another. Sounds like the same for you.

Hate to say it but you may want to check out an alarm company as well. I am, unfortunately it's almost gotten to that point.

exchange phone #'s with the neighbors. a courtesy call would have given you the element of surprise.

stomachmonkey 05-03-2009 08:10 AM

Hmmm,

Check your yard.

Possible the little drug dealers across the street are hiding their stash on your property.

Do I need to detail Texas? :D

Seriously, though, it isn't quite what everyone thinks.

Talked with the cop neighbor today. He thinks it was just a group of kids looking for a shortcut through the yards. The other cop on the street saw a group of kids walking down the street around the time the other cop saw someone in my back yard.

Deterrence

Pick yourself up any one of these (even the cheap ones are incredible):

Great for seeing if anyone is fooling around in your yard (shines right through windows), and also a great weapon if need be - trust me, get hit in the eyes with one of these and you won't have any idea what hit you next.
