1997 Toyota 4 runner estiimate

Friend of mine had a missing cylinder.. Mechanic said he found water in the oil. Think it's only a head gasket,, says it is $1200 to fix ( $600 in parts).. Sounds kinda pricey to me what do you guys think?

yea..it does sound high.But what is the guy also doing? normal stuff that adds up are good to do with that job, waterpump, timing belt/tensioner etc, front seal, acc belts etc..it can add up quick. is the head getting rebuilt as well?

Have you ever changed the plugs on 97 4Runner. I sold it instead.
